          REVERENCE
         BETA 7 EDITION
        FADE IN:
          EXT: GRAVEYARD- AFTERNOON
        Tree limbs, back
dropped by a blue sky filled with cotton swabs of clouds.
        LS of graveyard.
        CLOSE SHOT of TOMBSTONE.
          MOVING SHOT around base.
        CUT TO: Leaf covered
GRAVEYARD floor. Two pairs of feet move INTO FRAME.
        ZOOM OUT: A young
couple, holding hands, laughing, MOVING deeper into the old
Cemetery. MARY WILLIAMS pulls her boyfriend, JEREMY ANDERSON, closer
          to her.
He looks around, his gaze exploring the treetops. A timid expression
          grazes his face.
JEREMY is carrying a RADIO. Prince's song "Let's go crazy"
          blares from the radio,
          echoing around them.
        KEY: "Summer,
          1984"
        MARY
I told you I was going to surprise you!
        Jeremy pauses.
He looks her in the eye.
        CLOSE UP of JEREMY.
        JEREMY
          Surprise?
        CLOSE UP of MARY.
        Mary reaches to
the radio. Cut to hand and radio, an 80's style boom box. A finger presses
          a button, killing the music.
        (BEAT)
        MARY
Turn it off, Jeremy. Have a little
          respect, will you?
        JEREMY
Respect? We're in an old cemetery.
There's no one here! Don't you like music?
        CLOSE UP of MARY'S
MOUTH. Her lips are expertly filled with red lipstick. She smiles, revealing
          perfect rows of white teeth.
        MARY
I love music. You know that. Just
          not here.
        Jeremy PULLS her
          to him. They KISS.
        JEREMY pulls away.
          She is transfixed on him.
        MARY
We need to grow, and expand our
          relationship.
        JEREMY
          (Grins)
Oh... wow. This is a surprise! I'm
always in the mood to- um- expand.
        Mary SMILES and
LAUGHS. She takes his hand and leads him deeper into the graveyard.
She stops. She points around at all of the tombstones.
        MARY
Look around us. Tell me what you see.
        JEREMY
          Trees.
        MARY
          And?
        JEREMY
          (impatiently)
          A lot of old graves.
        MARY
Now how do you feel about life?
        JEREMY
          (Shrugs)
          I don’t know. I don't think about it.
        She takes him by
the HAND and leads him to an old HEADSTONE.
        MARY
Look. (BEAT) What does this say?
        Jeremy KNEELS down
          to examine the stone face.
        JEREMY
          Uh…Joan Jett.
        MARY
          Come on, Jeremy. Really!
        Jeremy SIGHS.
        JEREMY
          Roger Smith. March 4,1892 to
          February 14, 1949.
        (BEAT)
        MARY
Do you think anyone cared who he
was? Did he ever make a difference
          with his life?
        Jeremy SHRUGS.
        JEREMY
          I don't know.
        MARY
Did he wake up that morning and
realize he had only one day left?
        JEREMY
I don't know. He died 35 years ago.
        (BEAT)
        Mary pulls him
to a pair of headstones. They look brand new.
        MARY
Look at this! A husband and wife.
He died during his second heart attack,
overwhelmed by his high stress job.
(dreamily) She died the year after,
          of a broken heart...
        JEREMY
          You know how they died?
        MARY
          I… feel things.
        Jeremy looks around.
          He SMILES.
        JEREMY
          You haven't felt anything. Yet.
        Mary SMILES back.
        MARY
Do you love me as much as she loved him?
        JEREMY
          More.
        She turns away,
          playfully.
        JEREMY (con’t)
          I'm ready to prove it.
        MARY
          (innocently)
          Am I right for you?
        JEREMY
          (impatiently)
You're the best thing that's ever
          happened to me.
        Jeremy pauses.
Bushes RUSTLE nearby. A tall, slender GIRL emerges from the bushes.
She has long, dark hair, and is wearing a trench COAT. Her makeup is
smeared down her face, as if she had been crying. Her name is PAULA.
        Jeremy TURNS toward
          the girl. He is startled.
        PAULA
You said I was the best thing that
          ever happened to you.
        JEREMY
          What are you doing here?
        MARY
          Who is this?
        Paula GLARES at
          Mary.
        PAULA
          (mockingly)
          You must be Mary.
        MARY
          Jeremy, who is this…person.
        JEREMY
          (looking at Paula)
          Some obsessed cheerleader.
        PAULA
You seemed pretty obsessed with me
last month, screaming my name for
hours. (to Mary) Want more details?
        Mary looks Paula
          up and down.
        MARY
          (to Jeremy)
          Is that true?
        JEREMY
          No.
        PAULA
Did you know I'm late? (beat) DID YOU?
        JEREMY
          It was a mistake.
        MARY
          It's true?
        PAULA
          (to Jeremy)
          I loved you!
        JEREMY
Paula, I told you Me and Mary
          are together now.
        MARY INCHES AWAY
          FROM HIM. JEREMY DOESN’T NOTICE.
        JEREMY
          (to Paula)
If you are pregnant, I doubt it's mine!
        MARY IS STUNNED.
        MARY
          (to Jeremy)
          I can't believe I almost…
        PAULA
Of COURSE it's YOURS! How am I going
to face my parents? How am I going to
          face my friends?
        JEREMY
          (to Mary)
It's not mine. (to Paula) It can't be.
        PAULA
          (sobbing)
You're just like my father! It'll
all fun until you find out your gun
          was loaded.

          JEREMY
You've slept with half of the team!
        PAULA
          You’re a selfish, immature asshole!
        MARY
          Jeremy…
        JEREMY
          We were never together, Paula.
          Go find another victim.
        PAULA
My dad was never there for me, but
          he did do one thing...
        JEREMY
          (cocky)
          What?
        Paula REACHES behind
her and quickly pulls a PISTOL from the small of her back. She SWINGS
it out and LEVELS it at Jeremy, aiming at his crotch.
        PAULA
He taught me how to shoot!

          She FIRES the gun.
        The report of the
          pistol crackles through the graveyard.
        Jeremy SCREAMS.
        LS of graveyard.
        Mary SCREAMS in
the distance. She panics, and RUNS as fast as possible.
        LS-Paula RUNS after
Mary. Jeremy lies in a fetal position, SCREAMING. Paula SHOOTS the gun
again at her, missing. CU-Tree EXPLODES and BARK flies in front of Mary.
          She SCREAMS again.
        Mary RUNS faster.
She doesn't look back. Paula begins to close the distance. Jeremy's
GROANS echo through the graveyard as they grow more distant.
        Another gunshot
          EXPLODES.
        Liquid SPRAYS from
the middle of Mary's back. She CAREENS down toward the ground, her feet
out of step with her body. Trees and foliage blur by her. She STUMBLES
back into an unbalanced RUN, only to start to FALL again. She catches
herself on a tombstone, and the impact knocks the breath out of her.
She PULLS herself onto it, laying on it as the shock of being shot finally
overwhelms her. She slowly stops crying and becomes limp.

          CUT TO:
          EXT: WOODS - LATE AFTERNOON
        Paula STOPS and
          looks around.
        PAULA
          (whispers)
          Jeremy?
        The sounds of crickets
          remain uninterrupted.
        PAULA
          (louder)
          Jeremy?
        She stops and looks
around more fervently. She starts to cry.
        PAULA
          Where are you?
        Paula looks around
          more. She suddenly stops again.
        She GASPS.
        Jeremy is on the
ground, motionless and quiet with his knees tucked to chest. Paula RUSHES
to his side and begins to SHAKE him violently.
        PAULA
          Wake up baby… wake up!
        PAULA CRIES VIOLENTLY.
        Jeremy remains
motionless. Paula slowly GETS UP, and stumbles off to the side of the
clearing. She turns to face Jeremy.
        PAULA
          (whispers)
I can't go on without you.
        She tilts her head
admiring the sleek barrel of the gun.

          PAULA
          (broken)
          I can't do this alone.
        A look of determination
possesses her tearstained face. She puts the barrel of the GUN to her
          temple and FIRES.
        CU of tree as blood
          splatters across it.
        FADE OUT.

          FADE IN:
          INT: OFFICE - DAY
        Camera pans around
office interior. It is well decorated, with Greek insignia, fraternity
plaques, and sorority pictures adorning it. The insignia reads Alpha
          Beta Delta. Key: "Fall, 1995"
        CU of chess board.
Focus on a wooden knight, its long shadow cutting across the other pieces.
A rugged hand moves into the frame. Fingers grasp the top of the piece.
A finger taps slowly on the crest.
        CHRIS PARKER and
AMY HENDRIX are sizing each other up.
        CHRIS (VO)
Are you sure you want to do that?
        CU of Amy's eyes.
          They narrow.
        AMY (VO)
          Yes (BEAT) Just a second.
        CU of chessboard.
Her hands linger on various pieces as Amy finally chooses her KNIGHT.
        Two shot from side.
          Chris relaxes and SITS BACK.
        (BEAT)
        Chris SMILES. He
leans forward and MOVES a piece.
        Shot of Amy from
          Chris's perspective.
        CHRIS (VO)
          Checkmate.
        She is too easily
          perturbed.
        Shot of Chris from
          Amy's perspective.
        AMY
          Pawns reek.
        CHRIS
          Why's that?
        AMY
They can't do anything! I mean, look
at them. They just get in the way.
        CHRIS
Pawns are either nothing, or everything.
It depends upon how you use them.
        AMY
As in use them for a political agenda?
        CHRIS
          (smiles)
Ames, is the election still bothering you?
        AMY
          (forced smile)
          What gave you that idea?
        (Beat)
        CHRIS
Amy, president isn't all roses; it’s mostly thorns.
        AMY
You were one for two years, Chris.
        CHRIS
I had no choice; I was one of the founders.
We had a duty to lay a solid foundation.
        AMY
You didn't have to worry about politics.
        CHRIS
          You handled your campaign well.
        AMY
          I earned that office.
        CHRIS LEANS FORWARD.
        CHRIS
Amy, you have the best job around. You
can be creative, and still call the shots.
Trust me, it's better than president.
        AMY SHRUGS.
        AMY
I'm a pledge master. I get to torture the newbies.
        They LAUGH.
        CHRIS
The secret is delegation, Ms Hendrix.
You get people who are better than you,
          communicate aggressively, and let them
          do their jobs.
        AMY
          I know that, "Mr. Parker".
        She SMILES.
        CHRIS
          Who's helping you tonight?

          EXT: DENSE WOODS - DAY
        Amanda is hiking
through the woods. A walking stick is in her hand and a backpack burdens
her slender figure. She looks down, and her lips curl mischievously
as her gaze drifts to an old tombstone.
        AMY (VO)
Amanda Emerson. She was hand picked
          by Tammy, unfortunately. Otherwise,
          she seems competent.
        CHRIS (VO)
          And who are the pledges?
        CU of tombstone.

          DISSOLVE TO:
          INT: MEETING HALL - DAY
        PAN around a large
room. A row of CHAIRS faces a far wall. The wall is lined with twin
TABLES, and a PODIUM centers them. An EMBLEM resembling a spade adorns
the wall behind the podium. An attractive girl, TAMMY SPENCER stands
behind the podium, flanked by several officers. She addresses a small
group of girls in the room.
        TAMMY
So tonight will be the night you pledges
will become women. Those who are brave and
strong will pass the final initiation. Three
of you will become sisters. (she pauses)
In closing, I wish to have pledge master
Amy Hendrix say a few words.
        TAMMY LOOKS at
Amy, SEATED attentively waiting for her cue.
        TAMMY
          Amy?
        Amy GETS UP and
          approaches Tammy. They embrace.
        TAMMY (con’t)
          Good luck, my sister.
        AMY
Thank you, President Spencer. We will do
          what is required.
        TAMMY
The spirit of the sisters of the Alpha
          Omega Delta goes with you!
        Tammy takes her
seat beside the podium. Amy steps up to the microphone. She reads from
          a piece of paper.
        AMY
Tonight, we will be the first to spend
the night in an ancient graveyard, a
domain full of mystery and reverence.
Although not all of you will become sisters,
this experience will serve each of us for
          the rest of our lives.
        Amy pauses, and
          LOOKS over the girls.
        AMY (con’t)
And now sisters, our new pledges. Vanessa Marvel…
        A CONSERVATIVE
GIRL dressed in slacks and a silk shirt STANDS and SMILES.
        AMY (con’t)
Her latest painting, titled “Crucifix,” was
on display recently at the University of Tampa.
        VANESSA
My painting depicted the suffering that
Jesus endured for us as he died on the cross
for our sins. My next painting is of a dove
descending from heaven upon the baptism of Jesus
by his cousin, John the Baptist.
        Amy LOOKS over
at Tammy, who STARES back at her. Amy returns her attention to Vanessa.
        AMY
Thank you, Vanessa. Next is Summer Stevens.
        A BEAUTIFUL BLONDE
          STANDS wearing tight jeans.
        SUMMER
I am a model. I’ve done runway here in
Tampa and New York. Just last month, I
was chosen for the cover of a major magazine.
        AMY
          And your major?
        SUMMER
          Undecided; at the moment.
        TWO SHOT of two
GIRLS seated nearby; SAMANTHA and SERENA. Serena SMILES as Samantha
          WHISPERS to her.
        SAMANTHA
She’ll be undecided for the rest of her
life. And check out church girl.
        SERENA
She has a right to her religion. What do
          YOU believe in?
        SAMANTHA ROLLS
          HER EYES.
        CUT TO Amy, as
          she looks at her list.
        AMY
          Next, we have Samantha Robinson.
        CUT TO SAMANTHA.
        SAMANTHA IS OBLIVIOUS.
        SAMANTHA
I believe in me, isn’t that enough?
        AMY (OS)
          Samantha?
        CUT TO SERENA.
        SERENA
          You’re on, Sam.
        Samantha jumps
          up, annoyed and flustered.
        SAMANTHA
I dance. I’m trained in ballet, tap,
          jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, character, and
contemporary dance. When I become a major
choreographer I want to do musical theater
          and movies.
        AMY
          Next is Serena Perez.
        Serena STANDS.
          She GLANCES at Samantha.
        SERENA
I’m an actress from New York, recently
relocated; just finished a film in Orlando.
My major, of course, is theater. Oh, and
for those of you who will eventually find
          out, I’m religious, too. I’m a Wiccan.
        Samantha GLARES
          at Serena.
        SUMMER
          What’s Wiccan?
        SAMANTHA
          You mean irreligious.
        (THE ROOM GASPS)
        VANESSA
          Sacrilegious!
        SUMMER
          (horrified)
You’re a Satanist? You sacrifice babies?
        SERENA
          (annoyed)
No, we sacrifice virgins. (BEAT) Of course
we don’t sacrifice anything, and we don’t
          worship Satan.
        SUMMER
          But you are a witch?
        SERENA
I worship nature and the goddesses.
        SUMMER
          Really?
        SAMANTHA
          (sarcastically)
          Do you read palms, too?
        AMY
          (regaining control)
Tonight we will spend the night in a graveyard.
          (beat) The entire night.
        SAMANTHA
          (low to Serena)
          You’ll fit right in.
        AMY
Our initiation aid is Amanda Emerson.
        AMANDA is whispering
something to Tammy. She pauses to WAVE.
        VANESSA
A graveyard? Don’t you people have any
          respect for the dead?
        Tammy STANDS.
        TAMMY
I chose the graveyard- it’s perfect. Now you
will abide by the terms of the initiation, or
you will not get into the sorority.
        AMY
We’re not going to be robbing graves or
desecrating them. We are only spending
the night. And we will not have any alcohol.
        SUMMER
No alcohol? (BEAT) That’s clearly torture!
        SAMANTHA
          Where will we sleep?
        AMY
No one is allowed to sleep. We’ll stay
awake all night, tell a few stories, and
          maybe roast a few marshmallows.

          CUT TO:
          EXT: MEETING HALL - DAY
        AMANDA AND AMY
          WALK TO THEIR CARS.
        AMANDA
          I don’t believe that we’re doing this. I don’t
like the woods, and I definitely don’t like cemeteries.
        AMY
          We’ll make it fun.
        Tammy comes up
          behind them.
        TAMMY
          (to Amy)
It’s not supposed to be fun. May I have a
          moment with you?
        Tammy LOOKS at
Amanda who LOOKS at her like a faithful puppy.
        TAMMY
          (to Amanda)
          Alone?
        AMANDA
          Oh.
        AMY
I’ll be right behind you, Amanda.
        Amanda WALKS off.

        Amy TURNS to Tammy.
        AMY
          (defensively)
          Yes?
        TAMMY
Listen. (BEAT) There are no hard feelings
over the election, right? I need your support
now, and I'd appreciate it if you'd put your
personal feelings aside and fall in line.
        AMY
          Personal feelings? Mine?
        TAMMY
          Don't patronize me.
        AMY
          I'm not.
        (beat)
        AMY (con’t)
Why are only three girls getting in?
        TAMMY
A little competition brings out the best in everyone.
        AMY
I just don’t think competition fosters sisterhood.
        TAMMY
Well, you don’t have to think, you have to follow.
        AMY
You are the picture of democracy.
        TAMMY
Lose the attitude. It hardly veils your jealousy.
        AMY
You didn't beat me by much.
        TAMMY
          Would you like a recount?
        AMY
          Maybe.
        TAMMY SMILES ARROGANTLY.
        (BEAT)
        TAMMY
Do you still spend a lot of time with Chris?
        AMY
          We're very close.
        TAMMY
Looks like he wasn't impressed by your…performance.
        Amy steps up to
Tammy, and gets into her face.
        AMY
He and I are friends. (beat) I don't sleep
          around to get ahead.
        TAMMY
I hope that wasn't implication in your voice…
        AMY
He is one of the founders, and owns both the fraternity and the sorority!

        TAMMY
Exactly. What kind of person starts his own
          fraternal organizations?
        Amy looks bitter.
        TAMMY
I'm only in this because it's here, it's
strong, and it'll help my career when I get
out of college. I'm just along for the ride to
see how far it'll get me. Got it?
        AMY
You'll never be the president he was. You
don't even believe in what you do.
        TAMMY
I believe in democracy so I trust you will
fall in line. Now go out to the graveyard
          and test some girls.
        AMY
Couldn't you come up with something more original?
        TAMMY
It's not my job to be creative. It's yours.
If any of those girls leave before dawn, I want
          their names. Good night.

          CUT TO:
          INT: RECREATION ROOM - DAY
        Two fraternity
brothers, Tobey West and Paul Thomas, are in heated competition, playing
a VIDEO GAME. The great seal of the alpha beta delta, resembling an
          arrowhead, adorns a far wall.

Moans come from the game; an almost sexual crescendo of "yes-yes-yes!"
        PAUL
(In synch with a deep voice from the game)
          One up!
        TOBEY CHUCKLES.
        TOBEY
Tempest 2000 is the shit! Wait! Don't jump the
warp. Bail at the last ring. You need to build extra ships for the later
          levels.
        The door opens.

        The guys don't
even look up from the game.
        TOBEY
          What's up, Jackson?
        PAUL
          (Wolfman Jack voice)
          What it is, Mr. Jive?
        JACKSON
          Shut up, Paul!
        PAUL
          Fuck you then!
        TOBEY
Can't you two get along for at least
          five minutes?

          JACKSON
You know, Tobey, I get along with all
my brothers. Except for Doctor Blue Balls,
          ova’ here.
        PAUL
Don’t project your shortcomings on me, thanks.
        JACKSON
Nobody’s ‘coming’ over here except you on
          that game.
        TOBEY
It’s the only thing he can turn on.
        JACKSON
          (gets serious)
          Guys, I have news.
        TOBEY
          What's up?
        JACKSON
You're going to want to hear this, Paul.
          Pause the game.
        Paul pauses the
          game.
        PAUL
I hate this game- especially when you
          ruin my timing.
        JACKSON
          I heard things.
        He looks around;
          pauses.

          JACKSON (con't)
I heard some real interesting shit.
        He pauses dramatically.
        PAUL
Yo, man, enough already! Spill it!
        JACKSON
          I have their exact location.
        TOBEY
          Where?
        JACKSON
There is this Graveyard, see? We need to
          go there tonight.
        PAUL
Fuck these games…let's equip the pussy posse!
        JACKSON
          Jesus, man…someone is hard up!
        TOBEY
          Tell me about it.
        PAUL
          I'm talking about Amanda, guys!
        TOBEY
          Dude, she's into girls!
        PAUL
          You're making that up…
        JACKSON
No, man, he's not. Tobey couldn't get anywhere with her.
        PAUL
          That doesn’t mean anything.
        TOBEY
Hey, don’t let this get out beyond Olympus.
We went on three dates before she told me.
        JACKSON
Leave it to Tobey to lose the war.
        PAUL
Did she check your package and return it to its sender?
        JACKSON AND PAUL
          LAUGH.
        TOBEY
          Shit! I'm stamped first class.
        JACKSON
          No man, that chick’s bi.
        JACKSON’S
PHONE RINGS AND HE PULLS IT OUT AS HE WALKS OUT OF THE ROOM.

          INT: HALLWAY- DAY
        JACKSON IS ON THE
          PHONE.
        JACKSON
          Hey babe…
        (BEAT)
        JACKSON (con’t)
Yeah, it was special for me, too…listen…
(HE LISTENS) you read my mind, baby.
        (HE LISTENS)
        JACKSON (con’t)
          Definitely tonight, right? Listen, baby,
          I need another favor.

          FADE TO-
        CAMERA POV- TRANSITIONS
MOVING THROUGH A FIELD OF FLOWERS AND
INTO DENSE WOODS. SUNLIGHT TRACES THROUGH THE TREES.
TOMBSTONES PAN INTO VIEW. THE GRAVEYARD IS TIMELESS, AND LOOKS EXACTLY
AS IT DID A DECADE BEFORE.

          EXT. GRAVEYARD- DAY
        Amy and Amanda
walk into the graveyard. A bird chirps overhead, and Amy smiles.
        AMY
          Feel that?
        AMANDA LOOKS AROUND.
        AMANDA
          Nausea?
        AMY
Hey, our queen bee came up with this idea.
          Don't blame me.
        AMANDA
There'd better not be any bugs out here.
          I hate bugs. Especially spiders.
        AMANDA SHUDDERS.
        AMY
Of course there are bugs, this is the
outdoors. They’re harmless, though. And spiders?
Only one worries me. (beat) Black Widows.
        AMANDA
          Sounds like a biker bar.
        AMY SMILES.
        AMY
It's a large, black spider with a red
hourglass on its abdomen. It can put you
          in the hospital.
        AMANDA
I don't do the outdoors too well.
        AMY
          (Half to herself)
Well it’s peaceful out here, that’s one good thing. I really
don't think that this is going to be that bad.
        THE GIRLS WALK
          INTO A CLEARING.
        (BEAT)
        AMANDA
So what's up with you and Tammy?
        AMY TURNS TO AMANDA
DEFENSIVELY BUT CONTAINS HER EMOTION AND CALMLY STATES:
        AMY
          We have our differences.
        AMANDA
You don't use the term Queen Bee with any affection.
        AMY
She'd make a better black widow.
        AMANDA TURNS AWAY.
        AMANDA
          Tammy is kind of beautiful.
        AMY
          Where did that come from?
        AMANDA
          (smiles)
          …on the outside, anyway. (BEAT) She’s very…
        AMY
          Shallow?
        AMANDA
          (dreamily)
          Not to me.

Sfx- CRASHING TREE BRANCHES PIERCE THE SILENCE.
        AMY AND AMANDA
          STOP COLD.
        AMANDA
          What the hell was that?
        AMY
          An animal?

IS STAINED BROWN. A LANKY MAN DRESSED IN BLACK ENTERS THE
CLEARING. HIS CLOTHES ARE GOTHIC; HIS FACE IS PAINTED WHITE, AND HE
HAS ON MAKEUP TO HIGHLIGHT HIS FEATURES. HE IS CARRYING A STEREO.
THIS MAN CALLS HIMSELF "THE WURM".
        EXT: DEEP WITHIN
          GRAVEYARD- DAY
        WURM
(His voice is soft, deep, and raspy)
Tonight I will commune with the spirits. Tonight I
will explore the answers of the truth.
        WURM PUTS DOWN
THE RADIO. HE SITS ON THE LEAF COVERED GROUND,
AND STRETCHES HIS BONY FINGERS TOWARD THE SKY, WHICH IS FRAMED
WITH JAGGED TREE BRANCHES. BLACK FINGERNAILS GLEAM IN THE PATCHES
OF SUNLIGHT. HE CLOSES HIS EYES AND BEGINS TO PRAY.
        WURM (con’t)
I pray to thee, souls of the dead. I seek
thee, so I might find thee. Upon the arrival
of night, my communion will begin! I will seek
an offering worthy of you all…

REACHES OUT AND CLAPS HER HANDS.
        AMANDA LOOKS AT
          HER HAND.
        AMANDA
Look at the size of these mosquitoes!
        AMY
I'd worry more about ticks if I were you. They give you lyme disease.
        AMANDA
Shut up about the bugs, will you?
        AMY
          Well, this is Florida.

          EXT: ROADSIDE- DAY
Summer, Serena and Samantha are unpacking the cars.
        SUMMER
This is going to be cool!
        SAMANTHA
          How so?
        SAMANTHA PUTS A
FIRST AID KIT IN A PACK. SHE DOESN'T LOOK UP AT
          SUMMER.
        SUMMER
          I've never been camping before!
        SERENA
You've never communed with nature before, Summer?
        SUMMER REALIZES
          WHO IS TALKING. SHE SHRUGS.
        SUMMER
          No. I'm sure you have.
        SERENA
I don't know what your deal is with me!
        SUMMER MIMES SERENA
FOR A MOMENT BY DRAMATICALLY POUTING.
        SERENA (CON’T)
I am trying to have a conversation with
you. Any of you. Can’t you see past our
          differences?
        SAMANTHA
          (to Serena)
          Maybe witches make her uncomfortable.
        SERENA
The goddesses reside within nature. Besides,
judge and you will be judged. Right Vanessa?
        VANESSA
          (flustered)
Well… some of us don't believe in false idols.
        SERENA
          (turns to Vanessa)
Listen, church girl, I don't believe in
your misinterpretation of the bible, but
at least I try to respect it.
        VANESSA
          Misinterpretation? How…
        SERENA
          You're a close-minded, born again…
        AMY AND AMANDA
APPROACH THE GIRLS FROM THE EDGE OF THE
          GRAVEYARD.
        AMY
          Girls, come on!
        SAMANTHA
          Who cares about religion?
        SERENA AND VANESSA
          BOTH GLARE AT SAMANTHA.
        SUMMER
Let's try to have fun tonight.
        AMANDA
At least one of you is in a good mood.
        AMY
          That's the right attitude, Summer!
        AMANDA NOTICES
          SUMMER.
        AMANDA
          You're Summer?
        SUMMER
          Yes. I'm Summer.
        AMANDA SMILES.
        EXT: CAMPGROUND
          CLEARING- DAY
        AMY
The campfire will go here. I need two
of you to dig out a shallow pit, and
gather some rocks. Make sure that the
"rocks" don't have writing on them.
        VANESSA
          (Disgusted)
Why didn't you just bring a grill?
        AMY
You do want to see tonight, don't you?
        SUMMER
          It'll be fun, Vanessa.
        VANESSA
You're going to dig? What if you hit a casket?
        AMANDA
There aren't any graves in this area.
        VANESSA
Then why are we surrounded by head stones?
        AMY
We're thirty feet from the nearest grave. Relax!
        VANESSA (Distressed)
Digging in a graveyard. Isn't that...... against the law?!?!?!?
        SUMMER
          (ANNOYED)
What kind of firewood? (BEAT) Dead?
        SERENA
Everything is dead here. Things decompose,
and the plants get their food from what's in
the ground. Everything around you is an
extension of the dead buried here.
        SAMANTHA
Watch out, she preaches as much as this one.
        SAMANTHA MOTIONS
TOWARD VANESSA. SAM THEN GETS THE SHOVEL AND WALKS AWAY.

          SERENA
          (IGNORES HER)
Can I help with the food?
        SUMMER
Mmm! What are we cooking tonight?
        AMANDA
We've got hot dogs, marshmallows, chocolate smores…
        SUMMER
Forget hotdogs. Did you bring cucumbers?
        VANESSA
          (Puzzled)
          To cook on a campfire?
        SUMMER
          No, I like mine raw.
        THE GIRLS LAUGH,
          ALL EXCEPT VANESSA.
        VANESSA
Why do you have to be so perverted?
        SUMMER
          What? I'm a healthy girl.
        SERENA
Do we have water? I need at least a
gallon a day to cleanse my organs.
        VANESSA ROLLS HER
          EYES.
        AMANDA
          We have lots of water.
        SUMMER
You can have the water. Where's the beer?

          Yo, man, quit horsing around!
        PAUL (OS)
          We are in B.F.E.
        A BRANCH COMES
CRASHING TO THE GROUND. TOBEY, PAUL, AND JACKSON
EMERGE INTO A CLEARING. JACKSON IS SMILING BIG, AND IS CARRYING
HIMSELF LIKE HE IS THE MAN OF THE FOREST.
        JACKSON TAKES A
          DEEP BREATH.
        JACKSON
Ah, nature! I just love it!
        TOBEY
Are you sure the girls won't see our cars?
        PAUL
No way. So, if we get separated, let’s meet back there.
        JACKSON
I have someone out here fixing it so they’ll
all be inspired later tonight. We’ll scare them
first and then come to their rescue.
        PAUL
          Hey! (beat) That's pretty good.
        TOBEY
          'Fixing it' how?
        JACKSON
With a little bit of juice.
        PAUL
          Juice?
        TOBEY
          You're having the girls drugged?
        JACKSON
It's just a taste of the wild fungus.
        TOBEY
          That's weak, bro.
        PAUL
What kind of drugs are they getting?
        JACKSON
          It's nothing I wouldn't take myself.
        TOBEY
          Man, you don't have limits…
        JACKSON
Trust me, ok? She knows what she's doing.
        PAUL
I can't believe you! I'm not hitting on
          girls who are drugged…
        JACKSON
Yo, Paul, you were just telling me how
cool this was! You both over react. It's
like spiking the punch at a party.
        PAUL
Jackson’s a desperate loser who drops things
into girls’ drinks when they’re not looking.
        JACKSON
It's just a joke, for Christ sake! Perfectly
          safe. Don't you trust me?
        PAUL AND TOBEY
          LOOK AT EACH OTHER.
        (BEAT)
        TOBEY
As long as we keep an eye on you…yes, I'll trust you.
        JACKSON
          That's right, trust the doctor.
         TOBEY
          I’ll drive.
         JACKSON
          No, I’m driving.

        AMY
A few months ago, I discovered a secret
          about this graveyard.
        SERENA WALKS UP
WITH DRINKS AND A PACKAGE OF MARSHMALLOWS,
          GRAHAM CRACKERS, AND CHOCOLATE BARS.

          ELSE TO SELF-SERVE AND LISTENS.
        AMY (CON’T)
I went to the university library to read
up on old newspaper articles about this place…
        More than ten years
          ago, there were two high
school students who came to this graveyard to
          have…to consummate their love…

        AMANDA (OS IN DISTANCE)
And Jason came along and ran a machete straight

          Not exactly.
        VANESSA (OS IN

Wasn't it the movie Friday the 13th Part two? It
was a spear gun, not a machete.

        SAMANTHA
Are "Faces of Death" more your style, Serena?
        SERENA
I know a spell that can turn you into a mime.
        SAMANTHA
Maybe you could make yourself disappear.
        VANESSA
Hey, I used to watch all of those movies.
          Before I was saved.
        SUMMER
Yeah. Don't be a bitch, witch!
        AMY
          Enough, please!
        SAMANTHA
I'd kick Serena's ass but then she'd put a hex on me.
        SUMMER LAUGHS.
        SERENA
That's not what I do. Does anyone even know
          what Wicca is?
        AMY (loudly)
          Am I boring everyone?
        SAMANTHA TAKES
A DRINK. SHE SNEERS AT SERENA.
        SAMANTHA (muted)
          Bitch!
        SERENA
Ignorance seems to be the theme tonight.
        AMANDA
          Amy, I'm still listening.
        AMY
We really don't know why they came out
here, but the cops said it was to have sex.
(BEAT) Mary was a straight "A" student, and
Jeremy was her first boyfriend. They walked
into the middle of the graveyard, and…
        THE GIRLS GIGGLE.
        AMANDA
He demanded his way with her.

        AMY
          No, she didn't.
        AMANDA SMILES.
        SERENA
Wow. Experiencing love, and creating life on
a platform of death. That's poetry.
        SAMANTHA (to Serena)
You're a freak! You've probably done that before.
        SERENA (sardonically)
Yeah. Except in my encounter, she does join in.
        SUMMER'S SURPRISED
EXPRESSION QUICKLY MELTS INTO A MISCHIEVOUS
          SMILE.
        VANESSA'S MOUTH
          DROPS.
        AMY
Paula was heartbroken. She was carrying Jeremy's
baby, but Jeremy denied he was responsible.
        AMANDA (regretfully)
          Paula was devastated.
        AMY
In her eyes, her life was over.
        AMANDA (whispers)
          She was abandoned.
        SAMANTHA
          Is this really true?

          AMY
Yes, and it happened in this graveyard! And
          there's proof.
        AMANDA
I didn't know condom wrappers could last
          for over ten years!
        SUMMER
Or used condoms, for that matter.
        VANESSA
          Gross!
        SAMANTHA CRACKS
          A SMILE.
        SAMANTHA
Serena wouldn't use condoms, because it's
not compatible with nature- right, Serena?
        SERENA (smiles)
I made an exception with your boyfriend.
        VANESSA
Can we not talk about sex?
        SAMANTHA
You mean you fantasized about him while you
          practiced with your candles?
        AMY
          Guys, you're destroying my story.
        SUMMER (jokingly)
You guys are making me hot.
        AMY
Paula confronted them. She had a gun with
her; she was desperate. She dragged Mary's
body onto a tombstone, and then turned the
          gun on herself.
        (BEAT)
        SUMMER
          That's psychotic!
        AMY
There's a tombstone in this graveyard stained
with Mary's blood. I've seen it. It's over there.
        AMY POINTS TO THE
WEST, TOWARD THE LAKE SIDE OF THE GRAVEYARD.
        AMANDA
No it's not. It's that way, deeper in the graveyard.
        AMANDA POINTS SOUTH.
        AMY
          What?
        AMANDA
          Well, that's what I've heard.
        AMY
          Have you been here before?
        AMANDA
I hate the woods. You know that.
        AMY
Well, I've seen it, and that's not all.
        SERENA (unconvinced)
          There's more?
        AMY
People who live near here say it's haunted by
the ghosts of Mary, Paula, and Jeremy. Some
          hear them cry at night.
        SUMMER
          Yeah, sex cries!
        AMANDA
          Oh, the songs of pleasure.
        VANESSA
          You guys are perverts.
        SERENA
Girl, you're no virgin. Virgins don't
          need to be born again.
        The girls LAUGH.

        PAUL (OS)
          Which one?
        TOBEY

        PAUL
          What color?
        JACKSON
Let's move in closer. This party is on.
        TOBEY
How? With all these leaves, she'll hear us coming.
        JACKSON
Stick to the sides of the trail where the sand is hard. If you make
noise, break up your rhythm. She'll think you're an animal.
        PAUL
It sounds like Tonto has stalked girls in the woods before.
        JACKSON
Shut up, man! I'm Rambo Jive in these woods. Piss me off, and I might
          kill ya!
        PAUL (flatly)
          I'm petrified.
        JACKSON
          That's right: watch your back!
        TOBEY
Um- she's moving deeper into the woods.
        PAUL
What kind of girl goes on a night hike alone?
        JACKSON
          Easy targets.
        THEY GET UP AND

SAMANTHA STRUGGLES TO KEEP IT UP AS AMANDA ADJUSTS THE STAKES.
        SAMANTHA
          Damn it!
        THE TENT FALLS
          AGAIN.
        SAMANTHA
Christ! I thought you knew about setting these up?
        AMANDA
          I know enough.
        SAMANTHA
          Can we keep it up?
        AMANDA
Well, I can get it up, but can you keep it from falling?
        SAMANTHA SMILES.
        SAMANTHA
          Every time.
        AMANDA SMILES.
        AMANDA
How long have you been dancing?
        SAMANTHA
My mother says I was dancing before I could walk.
        AMANDA
          Really?
        SAMANTHA
She would play her records for me and we would dance together for hours
          and hours.
        (BEAT)
        AMANDA
          You were close?
        SAMANTHA
          Very.
        AMANDA
          Does she live in town?
        SAMANTHA TURNS
          AWAY.
        SAMANTHA
          She was murdered.
        AMANDA
          I’m sorry.
        SAMANTHA
She was attacked as she made the night deposit for our church.
        SAMANTHA LAUGHS
          BITTERLY.
        SAMANTHA (con’t)
The almighty dollar still rules this world.
        AMANDA
I didn’t mean to bring up bad memories.
        SAMANTHA
But that’s how she lives on- through me.
        (BEAT)
        AMANDA
          You are so deep.
        SAMANTHA
          I’m just real.
        AMANDA
And you have a killer body.
        SAMANTHA (getting
          uncomfortable)
          Thanks.

          AMANDA
          I give a great massage.
        SAMANTHA (uncomfortable)

          That’s good to know.
        AMANDA WALKS CLOSER
TO SAMANTHA. THEY ARE FACE TO FACE. THEY ARE QUIET.
        (AWKWARD BEAT)
        SAMANTHA
          What are you doing?
        AMANDA
          You have beautiful eyes.
        SAMANTHA
You sound like a guy when you say that!
        AMANDA
I could be a guy if you want me to be.
        SAMANTHA
          What?!?!?!?
        AMANDA
Is it true what they say about dancers?
        SAMANTHA
          Is what true?
        SAMANTHA pulls
          away from AMANDA.
        AMANDA
Is it true that dancers are so sexual?
        AMANDA tries to
          close the distance with SAMANTHA.
        SAMANTHA
          I wouldn't know. I'm a professional.
        AMANDA moves face
to face with SAMANTHA again. AMANDA places her hands on her thighs.
        SAMANTHA looks
down in shock. She looks AMANDA in the eye.

          AMANDA
          We could find out together.
        SAMANTHA
I don't know what your issue is, but if you don't get your hands off
of me, I'm going to kick your ass!
        AMANDA TURNS AND
          WALKS AWAY.
        AMANDA
          Fine.
        SAMANTHA
          Freak.

          CUT TO:
          EXT: CAMPFIRE AREA - NIGHT
        AMANDA WALKS INTO
VIEW. SHE SEEMS DISTANT AND BROODY.
        SUMMER (TO AMANDA)
I was wondering where you were.
        AMANDA
          What's up?
        SUMMER
          Is Samantha ok?
        AMANDA
She's having trouble pitching her tent.
        SERENA (OS- distant)
          Fuck off!
        AMANDA
This is going to be a pleasant night.
        VANESSA (OS- distant)
I'm not judging you. I'm not condemning you. I am concerned about your
          soul.
        SERENA (O.S. in
          distance)
I didn't come here to be converted! Get out of my way.
        SUMMER
          Drama.

          CUT TO:
          EXT: CAMPSITE- NIGHT
        VANESSA AND SERENA
ARGUE BY THE FIRE. AMY WALKS INTO THE
          CROSSFIRE.
        AMY
You two should stay away from each other for a while. This is ridiculous.
        SERENA (looks Vanessa
          in the eye)
No problem. I'm going for a walk.
        AMY
I don't want you leaving camp alone.
        SERENA (GLARES)
Are you going to stop me?
        AMY
          Yes.
        SERENA
Either I go for a walk, or I lose my temper.
        AMY
          Is that a threat?
        SERENA
No, I just insist! (BEAT) In theater groups, other actors looked beyond
my religious preferences and accepted me. I thought this sorority would
be open-minded since it was based on the arts. I've been harassed since
I got here. Fuck you all!
        AMY
          Serena...
        SERENA
And fuck you, Amy. You already had your chance to be a leader. I'm going
to report you to the university for discrimination. The goddesses may
forgive you of this, but I won't.
        AMY
          You're not going out there.
        SERENA STEPS UP
          TO HER.
        SERENA
          Stop me.
        AMY MOVES ASIDE.
SERENA WALKS OUT OF THE AREA INTO THE DARKNESS.
        SUMMER
          Actors. They're so melodramatic.
        AMY WALKS OVER
          TO THEM.
        AMY
I've never had such a hostile group!
        SUMMER
          But very entertaining.
        AMY
Tammy should be putting up with this crap!
        AMANDA
          You're the pledge master.
        AMY
          And?
        AMANDA
You're a good pledge master. Tammy is a good president.
        AMY (to Summer)
Will you check on the food, please?
        SUMMER
          Sure.
        SUMMER LEAVES.
        AMY
Can I get a little more support from you?
        AMANDA
          What?
        AMY
You're supposed to be my assistant. All you've been doing is instigating
inappropriate behavior and drooling all over yourself.
        AMANDA
          And you're jealous?
        AMY (exasperated)
          Where's Samantha?
        AMANDA
Trying to set up her tent.
        AMY
          Weren't you helping her?
        FADE TO:
          EXT: GRAVEYARD/ DENSE WOODS- NIGHT
        TOBEY, JACKSON,
          AND PAUL APPROACH A CLEARING.
        PAUL
          What is she doing?
        JACKSON
Looking for an appropriate place to pleasure herself.
        JACKSON SNICKERS.
HE STOPS, AND HIS EYES GET BIG IN SHOCK. FREAKY
MUSIC CAN BE HEARD IN THE DISTANCE.
        TOBEY
          What the hell is this?
        PAUL (Shrugs)
          Redneck porn?
        CUT TO:
          EXT: CLEARING - NIGHT
        CANDLES ARE BURNING
IN THE MIDDLE, AND THE CANDLELIGHT DANCES ON
THE FACES OF THE TOMBSTONES THAT HAVE BEEN ARRANGED AROUND THE
PARAMETER. WURM IS DANCING VIGOROUSLY, AND HIS HANDS ARE
STRETCHED TOWARD THE FULL MOON DIRECTLY OVERHEAD.
        WURM
Oh spirits, my masters! Where art thou tonight, spirits of the dead?
There are trespassers in your domain. Our meeting is interrupted. How
shall I please you, oh spirits of the dead?
        WURM BEGINS TO
          DANCE FURIOUSLY.

          CUT TO:
          EXT: CLEARING - NIGHT
        TOBEY IS VIDEOTAPING
          THE SCENE.
        TOBEY
          What the fuck?
        JACKSON
Yo, man, this is some satanic shit!
        PAUL
          It's not even a girl!
        JACKSON
          No shit!
        TOBEY
If the girls see this freak while they are messed up..... (puts down
the camera and faces Jackson) Jackson, I don't know about this.

          CUT TO:
          EXT: GRAVEYARD/PATH- NIGHT
        AMANDA AND SUMMER
GATHER FIREWOOD AS THEY STROLL DOWN THE PATH.
        SUMMER
          Didn't you used to model?
        AMANDA
When I was younger. (BEAT) I got tired of being a whore for marketing.
        SUMMER
          Those are harsh words.
        (BEAT)
        AMANDA
It's beautiful out tonight, isn't it?
        SUMMER
Is it Samantha? Did she say something?
        AMANDA
          Samantha can go to hell.
        SUMMER
She's just very opinionated, that's all.
        AMANDA
          And close-minded.
        SUMMER
I think people should respect one another's differences.
        AMANDA SMILES.
        SUMMER (con’t)
Do you think we’ll be safe out here?
        AMANDA
Are you scared of the dark?
        SUMMER
No, I'm just not used to being out in the woods.
        AMANDA REACHES
OUT AND PULLS SUMMER TO HER.
        AMANDA
          Don't worry, I know Jujitsu.
        SUMMER
          I can handle myself.
        AMANDA
          I bet.
        (BEAT)
        SUMMER LOOKS INTO
          AMANDA'S EYES.
        AMANDA
But what if someone grabs you…
        AMANDA QUICKLY
PINS SUMMER'S WRIST BEHIND HER BACK AND GRABS
SUMMER'S NECK IN A HOLD. SUMMER GASPS IN SURPRISE.
        AMANDA
          Like this?
        AMANDA STANDS PRESSED
          AGAINST SUMMER'S HELPLESS BODY.
        SUMMER SMILES.
        SUMMER
          Maybe this…
        SUMMER SLOWLY BRINGS
HER FREE ELBOW BACK INTO AMANDA'S STOMACH,
CAREFUL NOT TO REALLY HURT HER.

          SUMMER (con’t)
          And this.
        SUMMER TURNS AND
GENTLY BREAKS THE HOLD, FRONT PUNCHES TWO
          INCHES FROM AMANDA'S FACE.
        AMANDA SMILES.
        AMANDA
Jiujutsu is designed for more realistic combat.
        SUMMER
What could be more realistic than being grabbed?
        AMANDA PULLS HER
TO THE GROUND, ON PATCH OF THICK GRASS, AND
          STRADDLES HER.
        AMANDA
What if you were in this position?
        SUMMER
When I'm in this position, I'm usually not thinking of fighting.
        AMANDA
          With your boyfriend?
        SUMMER
          Ex-boyfriend.
        AMANDA
          Boyfriends are overrated.
        SUMMER
          So shallow sometimes.
        THEIR FACES ARE
          ONLY INCHES APART, AND CLOSING.
        AMANDA
Women have a deeper bond, a sensitivity men don't understand.
        SUMMER
My ex only felt with his hands.
        AMANDA
          I know what you mean.
        THEIR NOSES TOUCH.
        SUMMER
Never get between a fanatic and his sport.
        AMANDA
I know exactly how you feel.
        (BEAT)
        THEY BOTH CLOSE
          THEIR EYES.
        AMANDA
Just a bunch of little boys trying to pass as men.
        SUMMER SMILES AS
AMANDA LEANS IN TO KISS HER.
        FADE OUT.

          EXT: CAMPSITE - NIGHT
        AMY AND VANESSA
ARE SITTING NEXT TO THE CAMP FIRE.
        AMY
It's not your fault, ok? Serena has a temper.
        VANESSA
Doesn't she realize her soul is lost and going to hell?
        AMY
          Vanessa...

          VANESSA
          What?
        AMY
This is what I’m talking about. Don’t be offended but religion
is a very personal issue. Each individual has her own revelations. How
can you expect to relate to other people if you view everyone through
          only your life experiences?
        VANESSA
It's just that...I don't have anything else to talk about.
        AMY
Surely you've studied art and the great artists of history.
        VANESSA
          Michelangelo painted the Sistine chapel…
        AMY
          And he also carved 'David.'
        VANESSA
          Who?
        AMY
Sometimes, people are uncomfortable with what they don't understand.
        VANESSA
But I want everyone to understand…
        AMY
Maybe you don't understand their point of view.
        VANESSA
          I…
        AMY
Vanessa, not everything is so black and white. Try to stop lecturing
and observe. You might surprise yourself.
        VANESSA SHIVERS,
AND SHAKES HER HEAD AS IF SHAKING SOMETHING OFF.
SHE PUTS HER HEAD IN HER HANDS.
        AMY
          Please don't get upset…
        VANESSA
          I feel dizzy.
        AMY
I don't want to offend anyone.
        VANESSA
          Everything's spinning.
        AMANDA AND SUMMER
          WALK UP.
        AMANDA (nods to
          Vanessa)
          What's with her?

          AMY
She started getting dizzy. And Serena is wandering the woods somewhere.

        AMANDA SITS DOWN
NEXT TO THEM. SUMMER CROUCHES DOWN.
        SUMMER
          Still?
        AMY (to Summer)
Can this night get any worse?
        SUMMER
          I'm having a blast.
        AMY
          Looks like it.
        SUMMER’S
LIPSTICK IS SMEARED. SUMMER LOOKS BLISSFULLY INNOCENT.
        THERE IS A LOUD
          NOISE NEARBY. AMY STANDS.
        TOBEY WALKS INTO
          THE CAMP SITE.
        AMY
          Tobey?
        TOBEY
          Hi.
        AMANDA FROWNS.
          TOBEY SEES HER.
        TOBEY (con't)
You're probably wondering why I'm here.
        AMY
          Who else is with you?
        TOBEY
          Paul and Jackson.
        AMANDA
          How predictable.
        SUMMER
Waiting to see us topless? Nice camera!
        AMY
How did you know where to find us?
        AMANDA
What the fuck is going on, Tobey?
        TOBEY
Did you eat or drink anything?
        SUMMER
Is Tobey a part of our initiation?
        AMY
          Definitely not.
        TOBEY
          How are you feeling?
        AMY
          Why?
        TOBEY
          Uh… never mind.

          SUMMER
This initiation just keeps getting better and better!
        AMANDA
I’m sure you’re here for a very innocent reason, right?
Out taking a walk, all of a sudden, oh, a bunch of girls.
        TOBEY WALKS UP
          TO AMANDA.
        TOBEY (under his
          breath)
          Mandy, I'm trying to help!
        AMANDA
We don’t need any ‘help.’ Especially when I know what
          you consider to be help.
        AMANDA STEPS BACK.
        VANESSA SHIVERS
AND PUTS HER HEAD DOWN AGAIN.
        TOBEY
Drop the attitude, Amanda. I'm your friend.
        AMANDA
We were once, but not anymore.
        SUMMER
          Why don't you leave, Tommy?
        TOBEY
          It's Tobey.
        SAMANTHA STROLLS
          IN.
        SAMANTHA (brightens)
          Who's the guy?
        SUMMER
          Tommy.
        TOBEY (tight smile)
          It's Tobey!
        SAMANTHA
What are you doing here, Tobey?
        TOBEY (serious)
          To protect you.
        AMANDA (sarcastically)
          How noble.
        SUMMER
          From what?
        TOBEY
Listen, we came here tonight to play a prank on you and found this weird
guy hanging out nearby. He was watching you.
        AMY
          What guy?
        TOBEY
A Satanist or something. He’s doing some ritual out there right
now. Paul and Jackson are watching him.
        AMANDA
          Nice story.
        SAMANTHA (looks
          at Amanda)
We could really use a cute guy around here.
        AMANDA
          Trust me, we don’t.
        TOBEY
First, we should put out this fire.
        AMY (to Tobey)
I can’t allow you to come in here and take over.
        TOBEY
          I’m here to help you.
        TOBEY STARTS GATHERING
GREEN TREE BRANCHES AND THROWS THEM
INTO THE FIRE. THE FIRE STARTS TO SMOKE.
        AMY RECEDES INTO
          THE BACKGROUND.
        THE GROUP GATHERS
MORE BRANCHES, AND PILE THEM ONTO THE FIRE.
        AMANDA
Are we smoke signaling for help? Let me show you something.
        AMANDA GRABS THE
SHOVEL, AND STARTS THROWING LOOSE DIRT ON THE
          FIRE.
        AMANDA
This is the right way to do it.
        SAMANTHA MOVES
          IN BESIDE TOBEY.
        SAMANTHA
          I'm Samantha.
        SHE TAKES HIS HAND.
AMANDA ROLLS HER EYES AND LOOKS AWAY.
        SCREAMS ECHO IN
          THE DISTANCE.
        SUMMER
          What the hell?
        AMANDA (sarcastically)
          Here to help?
        AMY (panicked)
          Tobey, what was that?
        SUMMER
          Sounded far away.
        SAMANTHA
          Sounded real.
        VANESSA (weakly)
What do we do if this isn't a joke?
        AMY (worried)
          I don't know.

          CUT TO:
          EXT-GRAVEYARD PATH- NIGHT
        JACKSON AND PAUL
          ARE DOUBLED OVER LAUGHING.
        PAUL
          Holy shit, man!
        JACKSON
(Trying to catch his breath) Cat, I never saw a guy move like that before!
          That freak could run.
        PAUL
          Yeah...like a girl!
        JACKSON
          He looked like one, too.
        PAUL
Hey! Don't get a hard on, ok?
        JACKSON
          Think the girls heard us?
        PAUL
          Absolutely.
        JACKSON SPRAYS
          MOUTH SPRAY- TWO QUICK BLASTS.
        JACKSON
          Time to comfort the ladies.
        PAUL (rolls his
          eyes)
          Let's go find Tobey.
        THEY START WALKING
DOWN A TRAIL. JACKSON IS GRINNING.
        JACKSON
Tobey's probably taggin' on that Amanda chick right now!
        PAUL (begins to
          walk faster, outpacing Jackson)
          Shut up.
        JACKSON
Hey, homes, I hear them doing the nasty from here!
        PAUL
          Shut up!
        PAUL IS OUTPACING
JACKSON. JACKSON IS NOW SEVERAL STRIDES BEHIND
          HIM. JACKSON STARTS TO LAUGH.
        PAUL
          Will you hurry up, asshole?
        JACKSON
Slow down homes. He'll be a while. They'll still be doing it when we
          get there!
        PAUL
          Shut the…
        JACKSON SCREAMS
LIKE A GIRL. THE SOUND IS DEAFENING.

          CUT TO:
          EXT: CAMPSITE - NIGHT
        THE GIRLS AND TOBEY
          FREEZE.
        TOBEY
I swear I don't know what that was.
        AMY
Tobey, I am responsible for this group of girls. You can stay here and
play with your ‘brothers’ all night. We’re leaving.
          Now.
        AMANDA
And, we're filing a complaint with the fraternity.
        TOBEY
Great. I come here to protect you all, and everyone gets pissed off.
        SAMANTHA (to Tobey)
I'm not afraid of a few screams. They are, but I'm not.
        AMANDA GLARES AT
          SAMANTHA.
        SUMMER
It's just those guys goofing off out there.
        AMANDA (to Tobey)
We are not going to be subjected to this!
        TOBEY
          To what?
        AMANDA
          Immature practical jokes.
        TOBEY
This isn't part of our prank! Well, unless Jackson didn't tell me something-
          which, he probably didn't.
        AMY (to Tobey)
          What haven't you told us?
        TOBEY
          Amy, trust me.
        AMANDA
Those words never sound genuine out of a man's mouth.
        (THE BUSHES RUSTLE.
LABORED BREATHING CAN BE HEARD AS SOMETHING
          APPROACHES.)
        AMY
          Especially tonight.
        PAUL DARTS INTO
THE CAMP. HE DOUBLES OVER, OUT OF BREATH. THE GIRLS
          SCREAM AND JUMP.
        TOBEY
          Where's Jackson?
        PAUL (still catching
          his breath)
          I don't know! He disappeared!
        AMANDA
Relax, people, it's just one of the cavemen!
        AMY
          So Jackson just evaporated?
        AMANDA
          We're not that lucky.
        TOBEY
He must be up to something!
        PAUL (To Tobey)
Did they drink anything? (To the girls) Did you drink anything?
        AMY
          Yes, although nothing alcoholic.
        PAUL (finally catches
          his breath and stands upright)
Jackson had one of the girls spike the drinks with some drug.
        AMY
          What!
        SAMANTHA
          No wonder…
        AMANDA
          We all drank that shit.
        SUMMER
          Was it roofies?
        AMANDA
If it were, I'm sure that we'd be passed out getting screwed by fraternity
          boys right now.
        TOBEY
          Amanda, we wouldn't do that!
        AMANDA LAUGHS BITTERLY.
        AMANDA
          You're a guy. It's in your nature.
        SAMANTHA
          …I feel like I'm tripping.
        VANESSA
          I don't want to die.
        AMY
He's talking about drugs, not poison! We should be ok, as long as we're
not tripping out right now. Are we?
        SAMANTHA (laughs)
          I am.
        VANESSA
Jesus told me that some of us are going to die!
        SAMANTHA
We all die! Just go out with a bang! Right, Tobey?
        VANESSA
          Jesus said we die tonight!
        TOBEY GOES OVER
TO HER. HE CUPS VANESSA'S CHIN IN HIS HAND, AND
LOOKS IN HER EYES. VANESSA LOOKS TERRIFIED. SHE IS SHAKING.
        TOBEY
Paul, did Jackson tell you what kind of drugs they were before he "disappeared"?
        PAUL
He said it was some sort of hallucinogen.
        TOBEY
          Probably LSD.
        AMANDA
No, it's not that. LSD would have hit us a while ago, and it doesn't
          feel like LSD.
        SAMANTHA
          Hello! I'm telling you guys…
        VANESSA
          Jesus loves you, Tobey!
        TOBEY (re: Vanessa)
          She seems a bit whacked.
        AMY
How did he get in our drinks?
        PAUL
He had one of the girls do it.
        AMY
          Who made the punch?
        SAMANTHA
          The cauldron bubbles.
        VANESSA'S EYES
          ARE WIDE AND GLASSY.
        VANESSA (In a weak
          voice- starts rocking)
Jesus loves me this I know, for the bible…
        SAMANTHA
          Will you calm down?
        AMY
How much did you have, Vanessa?
        VANESSA GIGGLES
          SLOWLY.
        TOBEY
          She's ripped!
        PAUL
          Fuck Jackson and his shit!
        AMY
Serena! She's the only one who could have.
        AMANDA WALKS UP
          TO THE GUYS.
        AMANDA (to the
          guys)
If we drank this shit, you guys are drinking this shit.
        PAUL
Hey, Tobey and I didn't find out about it until we got out here!
        TOBEY
          Trust us.
        AMANDA MARCHES
OVER TO TOBEY. SHE GETS IN HIS FACE.
        AMANDA
So, we just found out, asshole.
        SUMMER POURS TWO
CUPS AND GIVES ONE TO EACH MALE.
        AMANDA
          Drink!
        THE MEN LOOK AT
EACH OTHER.PAUL SHRUGS AND CHUGS HIS SHROOM PUNCH.
        SUMMER
          Now, this is a party!
        AMANDA
          Tobey, you need to drink!
        TOBEY LOOKS HER
IN THE EYE AND RAISES HIS GLASS DEFIANTLY. HE DUMPS IT ON THE GROUND.
        TOBEY
Get a life, Amanda. I'm leaving.
        TOBEY WALKS AWAY
FROM THE CAMP SITE. HE SHUTS OFF HIS CAMERA AS HE GOES.
        AMANDA
Just where in the hell do you think you are going?!?!? Come back here!
        TOBEY
I'm going home. I'll see you later, when you aren't such a bitch!
        AMANDA
          What?!?!?!?! You're a dick, Tobey!!!!!!!!!
        TOBEY LEAVES.
        AMY
Let him go. Where the hell is Serena?
        CUT TO:
          EXT: DEEP WOODS- NIGHT
        ECU- OF SERENA,
LYING IN THE WOODS, HER EYES ROLLING BACK AS IF IN
          ORGASM.
        STROBE EFFECT-
          FLASHBACK SEQUENCE
        CUT TO:
LS- SERENA IS WALKING DOWN A TRAIL. SHE LOOKS AROUND AS IF LOST. SHE
LOOKS BACK, THEN BEGINS JOGGING, ALMOST RUNNING.
        CUT TO: PRESENT
          TIME-
ECU- SERENA EYES ARE ERRATIC, HER BODY SHAKES.
        CUT TO:
LS- SERENA IS AT FULL SPEED, RUNNING WILDLY, HER FOOT TRIPS ON A
          ROPE...
        CUT TO: PRESENT
          TIME-
CU- SERENA IS SHAKING LESS AND WE SEE SHE IS ALONE, LYING ON THE
GROUND, THE LOOK ON HER FACE IS CLOSER TO TERROR. THE CAMERA PULLS BACK
TO SHOW THAT SHE IS HOLDING HER THROAT. HER HANDS ARE COVERED IN BLOOD.
        CUT TO:
CU- SERENA'S FOOT CATCHES ON THE ROPE
THE TRAP TRIGGERS... A TREE BRANCH LASHES OUT AT HER, ACROSS HER THROAT.
          SFX-SWISH
        CUT TO: PRESENT
          TIME-
SERENA'S BODY SHAKES ONCE MORE AND THEN LAYS LIMP. A POOL OF
BLOOD HAS GATHERED AROUND HER AND AS WE GET CLOSER, SHE
CONVULSES ONCE AGAIN, ALMOST SITTING UP BRIEFLY, THEN…
        WE SEE WURM WALKING
IN THE THICKNESS OF THE WOODS…

          FADE TO BLACK.
        SFX- WURM SCREAMS.

        EXT: CAMP SITE-
          NIGHT
        AMY WOBBLES. SHE
          SHAKES HER HEAD.
        AMY
I'm feeling dizzy. Are you ok?
        SAMANTHA (very
          relaxed)
I am fu…cked up. I'm starting to feel like this is a party!
        AMY LAUGHS.
        AMY
          How's Vanessa?
        SAMANTHA
          Hard to tell.
        AMY
          Can I trust you, Samantha?
        SAMANTHA
          Of course.
        A SHRIEKING SCREAM
PIERCES THE AIR. IT IS DISTANT.
        AMY
          Paul!
        PAUL
That wasn't Jackson. I'm sure of it!
        AMANDA
          This is fucking bullshit! Tobey........
        VANESSA
          They are coming!
        SAMANTHA (interested)
          Who?
        VANESSA
The demons! They're coming for our souls.
        SAMANTHA (rolls
          her eyes)
Some of us can't handle drugs.
        SUMMER
She's bombed out of her mind. Leave her alone.
        VANESSA
Like the story in the bible…
        SAMANTHA
          Vanessa, you're freaking us out!
        VANESSA
This is the domain of the demons. They will come for us.
        SAMANTHA
          Shut up!
        SUMMER (to Samantha)
          You're not helping.
        VANESSA
          They will possess us all.
        SAMANTHA
          Vanessa, snap out of it.
        AMY
          Calm down, Vanessa. Be strong.
        VANESSA IS SITTING
DOWN AGAIN. SHE IS SHIVERING AND PRAYING. AMY
GOES TO HER, AND TAKES HER ARM. VANESSA JUMPS AWAY. SHE SEEMS
          SCARED OUT OF HER MIND.

          VANESSA
          The demons are among us.
        AMY
          Let’s get out of here.

          EXT: DENSE WOODS - NIGHT
        THE GIRLS MOVE
THROUGH THE DENSE BRUSH, PUSHING BRANCHES ASIDE. THE GROUP SLOWS. SUMMER
WALKS A FEW STEPS AHEAD OF THEM, AND TRIPS. SHE FALLS TO THE GROUND,
FACE TO FACE WITH SERENA'S FROZEN FACE.
        SUMMER SCREAMS,
          AND SCRAMBLES TO STAND UP.
        AMY
          Serena?
        SAMANTHA
          Holy shit!
        SERENA IS LYING
FACE UP ON THE TRAIL. THERE ISN'T A SIGN OF LIFE.
SUMMER HOLDS UP HER HANDS. THEY ARE COVERED IN BLOOD. SHE STARTS
          TO CRY.
        PAUL
          Is she…dead?
        SUMMER (sobbing)
It's all over me! It's all over me!
        AMY HOLDS HER MOUTH,
GAGGING. SHE RUNS TO THE SIDE OF THE TRAIL,
          AND THROWS UP.
        PAUL
          I'm gonna be sick!

          VANESSA (praying)
Jesus help us! As I walk through the valley of death, I will fear no
          evil…
        SAMANTHA SHOVES
VANESSA INTO A BUNCH OF FERNS. SHE SCREAMS AT
          VANESSA.
        SAMANTHA
          Shut the hell up!
        AMANDA
          Her throat was…slashed!
        AMANDA LOOKS AROUND.
          SHE SEES THE BLOODY BRANCH.
        AMANDA (softly)
          Oh, no!
        PAUL
Who the hell would do this?
        SUMMER GETS UP.
SHE HAS BLOOD ALL OVER HER CLOTHES. SHE IS STILL
          CRYING.
        SUMMER (keeps repeating
          until)
          Ohmygod! Ohmygod!
        AMANDA (building)
          Summer… Summer…SUMMER!
        SUMMER STOPS CHANTING
          NEUROTICALLY.
        AMY RETURNS. SHE
WIPES HER MOUTH. TEARS ARE STREAMING DOWN HER
          FACE.
        AMY
          What is happening?
        AMY STARTS TO SOB.
        SAMANTHA
We need to pull ourselves together.
        AMANDA
You seem pretty calm about all this.
        AMY (takes a deep
          breath)
          Let’s think. (beat) Um…shit, I can’t think.
        PAUL
That voodoo guy! He probably got Jackson, too!
        AMANDA
Who? We were all together. Except Samantha.
        SAMANTHA
What are you saying, Amanda? Your boyfriends were out there, too.
(beat) (to Paul) This is one hell of a prank.
        PAUL (bewildered)
          What?
        AMANDA
          You two weren't exactly friends.
        SAMANTHA
She wasn't friends with anyone. Anyone could have done this…
        SUMMER (freaking
          out)
We need to go! I want to go!
        AMY
          Everybody shut the FUCK UP!
        AMANDA LOOKS AT
AMY WITH AN UNEXPECTED AWE. EVERYONE LOOKS.
        AMY (a little calmer)
          I’m trying to think.
        VANESSA REMAINS
          NEAR THE BUSHES.
        VANESSA
We're not going to make it.
        SAMANTHA (too loudly)
          Shut up!
        AMANDA
Are you going to kill her now, Sam? Where's the knife?
        SAMANTHA SCREAMS,
AND CHARGES AT AMANDA. AMANDA SIDESTEPS HER,
AND TRIPS HER. SAMANTHA FALLS ON SERENA'S BODY.
        AMY
          That's ENOUGH!
        SAMANTHA
          You…bitch!
        AMANDA
Where's the knife? Huh? Where's the Goddamn knife?
        PAUL HOLDS AMANDA
          BACK.
        AMY
This is not getting us anywhere! We need to maintain order! AM I UNDERSTOOD?
        VANESSA GETS UP.
SHE STARES AT AMANDA. HER FACE IS PALE, AND HER
          MOUTH IS WIDE OPEN.
        VANESSA
          The demon is in you!
        AMANDA
          What?
        SAMANTHA GETS UP.
SHE TRIES TO WIPE THE BLOOD OFF OF HER. SHE ONLY
MANAGES TO SMEAR IT INTO HER CLOTHES MORE.
        SAMANTHA
Great! Amanda, you're paying for some new clothes!
        AMANDA
          Yeah, you're REAL remorseful!
        SUMMER (crying)
Both of you stop! You're making me sick.
        AMY
Serena was killed! Don't you all get it? Someone’s out there…
        VANESSA
          Amanda…
        AMANDA
          Shut up!
        A LOUD CRASHING
          SOUND IS CLOSE BY.
        EVERYONE FREEZES.
        THE SOUND COMES
CLOSER. FEET CAN BE HEARD RUNNING. MORE
          BRANCHES CRASH AND CRACKLE.
        AMY (Whispers loudly)
Everyone get down and stay quiet!
        THE GROUP DROPS
TO THE GROUND. THE NOISES ARE ALMOST ON THEM.
A FIGURE IN BLACK TUMBLES ONTO THE TRAIL. THE PERSON IS COVERED IN
          BLOOD. IT IS WURM.
        THE GIRLS SCREAM.
PANIC ENSUES, AND ALL OF THE GIRLS SCRAMBLE TO
THEIR FEET AND RUN INTO THE THICK WOODS OF THE GRAVEYARD. SUMMER
AND SAMANTHA RUN OFF TOGETHER, VANESSA SCRAMBLES OFF TO A SIDE
TRAIL, AND AMANDA RUNS OFF ALONE. PAUL AND AMY RUN PAST SERENA'S
BODY DOWN THE TRAIL. WURM GOES AFTER THEM, STAGGERING WILDLY.
AMY TRIPS AND FALLS, AND PAUL REACHES DOWN TO PICK HER UP. WURM
CATCHES UP TO THEM. HE HISSES LIKE A MADMAN, BREATHING HARD.
        PAUL STEPS BETWEEN
          AMY AND WURM.
        PAUL
          Stay behind me!
        PAUL LOOKS AROUND
FOR SOMETHING TO USE AS A WEAPON. HE IS FROZEN
IN PLACE; HIS EYES DO THE SEARCHING.
        WURM FALLS TO THE
          GROUND, HIS EYES GROW WIDE.
        WURM
They are all around us, and they want vengeance!
        WURM GETS UP. AMY
          AND PAUL STEP BACK.
        WURM
You think I killed her? (beat) I did not.
        AMY
          Then who did?
        WURM
The spirits of the dead. I have unleashed them, and they are angry!
        PAUL
Dude, you're the one wearing blood.
        WURM
          We are in danger.
        AMY
What are you doing out here?
        WURM
          Trying to pacify them!
        AMY
Then what the hell happened to you?
        PAUL
What the hell kind of satanic shit were you doing out there?
        WURM
          Come with me.
        WURM LOOKS AROUND
AS IF HE SEES SOMETHING THAT ISN'T THERE.
        WURM
          Quickly!
        AMY
We are not going anywhere until you explain what is going on!
        PAUL
          You're tore up!
        WURM
I fell on a head stone.
        WURM PRESSES HIS
HAND ON HIS FOREHEAD. THE BLOOD IS FRESH.
        WURM
          I'm bleeding to death!
        CUT TO:
          EXT: WOODS/NIGHT - NIGHT
        AMY'S VOICE, CALLING
THE GIRLS, CAN BE HEARD IN THE DISTANCE. IT IS
FAINT. VANESSA STAGGERS QUICKLY THROUGH THE WOODS, SOBBING AND
          BREATHING HARD.
        AMY (OS)
          Girls! (BEAT) Come back!
        VANESSA
This is not fair. Lord, what have I done to deserve this?
        (BEAT)
          AMY'S VOICE IS MORE DISTANT.
        AMY
          Girls!
        VANESSA
Oh, no! Forgive me Lord. It is I who violated the peace of the souls
resting here. It is I who is impure. Lord forgive them. They do not
          know what they do.
        VANESSA COLLAPSES
          TO HER KNEES.
        VANESSA STARTS
          TO CRY.
        VANESSA
Forgive me, Lord, for I have sinned…
        AMY SOUNDS VERY
          DISTANT AS SHE SHOUTS DESPERATELY.
        VANESSA
I have not followed your example of light. I am surrounded by darkness…
        (BEAT)
        VANESSA HEARS WHISPERS
ALL AROUND HER. SHE LOOKS TO THE SKY.
TEARS ARE STREAMING DOWN HER FACE.
        VANESSA
Lord, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth
          as it is in heaven…

          CUT TO:
          EXT: GRAVEYARD- NIGHT
        THE GIRLS ARE RUNNING
AND STOP IN A CLEARING. SUMMER IS OUT OF BREATH, BUT SAMANTHA DOESN'T
          SEEM AS AFFECTED.
        SAMANTHA
          I think we lost him.
        SUMMER (breathing
          hard)
          But are you sure?
        SAMANTHA
          Yeah, I'm sure.
        SUMMER
          Who was that freak?
        SAMANTHA
          I didn't wait for introductions.

          SUMMER
He was covered in her blood! Do you think he…?
        A SHOUT BARELY
REGISTERS IN THE DISTANCE. IT SOUNDS FEMALE.
        SUMMER (con’t)
          Is that Amy?
        SAMANTHA
          Let's find our cars.
        THEY START TO WALK
          AGAIN.
        (BEAT)
        SUMMER
          You think Amanda did it?
        SAMANTHA
          She's hiding something.
        SUMMER
          She's harmless.
        SAMANTHA
Is she your new best friend or something?
        SUMMER (calmly)
          What?
        SAMANTHA'S EYES
          NARROW.
        SAMANTHA
I think Amanda might have had something to do with this. She's obviously
          deviant.
        SUMMER
She couldn't have killed Serena! She was with me. The only person that
          was alone was…
        SAMANTHA (calmly)
          Me?
        (AWKWARD BEAT)
        SAMANTHA
          You think I killed her?
        (BEAT)
        SUMMER IS TREMBLING.
          SHE STEPS BACK.

          SUMMER
          I don't know…
        (FADE OUT)
        SOUNDS OF CRYING.
          HYSTERICAL SOBS. BREAKING BRANCHES.
        VOICE (O.S)
          Please! Please stop!

          FADE IN:
          EXT: GRAVEYARD WOODS- NIGHT
        VANESSA IS WALKING
BACKWARDS, FACING AN UNKNOWN PURSUER. HER
HAND IS OUTSTRETCHED, HER FINGERS HALF CLOSED AS IF CLAWING THE
AIR. SHE IS CRYING OUT OF CONTROL.
        VANESSA
Demon, I command you to leave!
        (SOUNDS OF WARPED
LAUGHTER, GENDER UNKNOWN. THE CRICKETS ARE
LOUD, OVERBEARING; THEIR SOUNDS ARE WARPED, TOO.)
        VANESSA STOPS CRYING.

        VANESSA
I cast you out, demon! In Jesus name, I cast you out!
        (BEAT)
        HER NEW CONFIDENCE
FADES AND TERROR CREEPS BACK INTO HER EYES. SHE SCREAMS.

          CUT TO:
          EXT: GRAVEYARD- NIGHT
        AMANDA WALKS THROUGH
THE WOODS. HER SHIRT IS TORN. HER FACE IS
SCRATCHED. BLOOD IS SMEARED ON HER CLOTHES. SHE IS EERILY CALM,
AND GLIDES THROUGH THE WOODS AS IF ON ROLLERBLADES UPON A PAVED
PATH. AMANDA'S PERSPECTIVE: WARPED IMAGES OF FOLIAGE; DISTORTED
          NIGHT SOUNDS. AMANDA GIGGLES MISCHIEVOUSLY.
        DESPITE HER TRANQUIL
DEMEANOR, SHE APPEARS AS IF SHE HAS GONE
THROUGH HELL. AMANDA STOPS. TWIGS SNAP NEARBY. HER EYES LOCK IN THE
DIRECTION OF THE DISTURBANCE. THE SOUND IS FROM A DENSE THICKET.
        (BEAT)
        AMANDA APPROACHES
THE THICKET. HER POSTURE IS DOMINANT AND AGGRESSIVE.
        AMANDA
          Who's there?
        A MAN EMERGES.
          IT'S JACKSON JIVE.
        JACKSON
Shit, girl! You scared the hell out of me!
        AMANDA
What are you doing out here?
        JACKSON BREAKS
INTO HIS MENACING LAUGHTER. THE CRICKETS AROUND
          THEM PAUSE TO LISTEN.
        JACKSON
I've been sneaking around and having fun! I scared the shit out of Paulette.

        AMANDA
          You- you need to leave.
        JACKSON
          Man, you girls are tripping!
        AMANDA
          Literally, right? (BEAT) Serena's dead.
        JACKSON (genuinely
          worried)
          Come again?
        AMANDA
She was killed. That freak ambushed us on the way out, and we all got
          separated.
        JACKSON
...Serena. (Beat) You wouldn't lie about something like this, would
          you?
        AMANDA
          We're all in danger.
        HE RELAXES.
        JACKSON
Don’t worry, baby. I’ll take care of you.
        AMANDA LOOKS AWAY.
          HER LIP TREMBLES.
        JACKSON
          Hey, I know you.
        AMANDA (eyes narrow)
          No you don't.

          CUT TO:
          EXT: GRAVEYARD PATH- NIGHT
        PAUL AND WURM ARE
SEATED IN THE PATH. HE SHAKES HIS HEAD. AMY IS
STANDING, SHOUTING OUT INTO THE SURROUNDING WOODS.
        AMY
          Girls! Come back!
        PAUL
          They can't hear you.
        AMY WALKS BACK
          TO THEM, HOARSE FROM YELLING.
        AMY
What am I supposed to do? What the hell is going on here? Please tell
me this is just a bad trip. (beat) Is it?
        PAUL
There are wild animals out here. Maybe a boar got Serena.
        AMY
Since when do boars fly? It was her throat!
        WURM
Well, if someone's out there killing people, maybe we should stay quiet.
        AMY'S EYES NARROW,
          AND PAUL STIFLES A LAUGH.
        AMY
What was all that spirit shit you were rambling about? Why were you
          so scared?
        WURM REMOVES A
PIECE OF SHIRT OFF OF HIS FOREHEAD. IT IS SOAKED IN
          BLOOD.
        WURM
          The bleeding stopped.
        AMY
And why are you dressed like that? What's really going on?
        WURM
I'm a student. Art and religion, specifically. I'm exploring a practice
          called Qualimasa.
(BEAT) The practice of channeling past lives from the dead through the
          living.
        PAUL
          Bullshit.
        WURM
It's all my fault. I awakened the dormant spirits of the dead.
        AMY
          What?
        WURM
Three spirits are guarding this graveyard.
        AMY
          Three?
        WURM
They are unable to rest in peace. Killed before having a chance to live.

        PAUL
          Killed?
        AMY
Oh my God! Mary, Jeremy, and Paula?
        WURM
They don't speak with words; I just feel their rage.
        PAUL
This is fucked up, man. (beat) You didn’t chug off our punch,
          did you?
        AMY
          This is too…no…I need proof.
        WURM
I have no proof. You just have to accept and believe it.
        PAUL
Someone physically killed Serena. She was not killed by any… ghost!
        AMY
Wurm, where were you when Serena died?
        WURM
How would I know when she died! I've been on the other side of the graveyard.
        PAUL
Whoever killed her didn't need a motive. They were psychotic.
        WURM
          Are you blaming me?
        PAUL
We'll leave that up to the police.
        WURM (yells)
          I don't like cops!
        AMY
          Calm down!
        WURM GETS UP.
        WURM
They'll think I did it no matter what I say. They'll stereotype me!
I'll be guilty until proven innocent.
        AMY
That's not how it works in this country.
        WURM
I'm not going to be crucified for this! I am responsible for unleashing
the sprits, and I will deal with that on my own!
        WURM RUNS INTO
          THE WOODS.
        AMY
Are you going to stop him?
        PAUL
Hell no! He could have a knife on him!
        AMY
Great. You're really brave, you know that?
        PAUL
Hey, I'll protect you, but I'm not risking my life just to chase him
down. (BEAT) I don't think he did it.
        AMY
          Neither do I.

          EXT: GRAVEYARD PATH- NIGHT.
        PAN OF WOODS. JACKSON
          IS PANNED INTO FRAME.
        JACKSON IS LIMPING
THROUGH ALONG THE PATH. HE IS SWEATING AND
BREATHING PROFUSELY. HE KEEPS HIS LEFT LEG STILL, AND DRAGS IT. IT
APPEARS TO BE BROKEN OR SPRAINED.
        JACKSON
          Shit, shit, shit.
        JACKSON HUFFS AND
GRUNTS. HIS EYES ROLL BACK AS HE MIS-STEPS ON HIS
          BAD LEG, AND HE COLLAPSES.
        JACKSON
          FUCK!!!
        THE WORDS ECHO
HIGH ABOVE HIM; BIRDS FLY OUT OF A TREE.
JACKSON LOOKS UP AND GROWS QUIET.
        POV- RUSHES UP
          TO JACKSON.
        FADE TO BLACK.

          SFX: LOUD CRUNCH.

          EXT: GRAVEYARD- NIGHT
        AMY IS SITTING
          DOWN. SHE IS SHAKING.
        PAUL
          Are you ok?
        AMY
I think I drank too much juice.
        PAUL
That punch has definitely hit me.
        AMY
          I can’t believe Serena is…and who knows if we’ll…
        PAUL
Don't worry, we're going to make it out of here!
        AMY
People are dying- I can feel it!
        PAUL
Relax. Every thing will be fine.
        AMY GETS UP. SHE
TRIES TO SMILE THROUGH FLOWING TEARS. SHE TAKES
          HIS HAND.
        AMY
          Come with me!
        SHE PULLS HIM IN
A DIRECTION DEEPER IN THE GRAVEYARD, TO THE SOUTH.
PAUL MOTIONS TO THE WEST (Camera POV from south).
        PAUL
Where are we going? The road is that way!
        AMY
I need to show you something!
        PAUL
          That’s the way Wurm ran…

          EXT: GRAVEYARD- NIGHT
        THE GIRLS ARE MAKING
          THEIR WAY THROUGH THICK FOLIAGE.
        SUMMER
          How much farther?
        SAMANTHA
          This goes on forever!
        SUMMER
Do you even know where we are?
        SAMANTHA
We're almost there- I'm sure of it!
        SUMMER
          There's a path up ahead!
        AS THEY REACH THE
PATH, SAMANTHA JUMPS WHEN SHE SEES…
        SAMANTHA
Holy shit! What the hell happened to you?
        AMANDA IS IN THE
MIDDLE OF THE PATH. SHE LOOKS THE SAME AS BEFORE,
BUT HAS NEW SCRATCHES ON HER ARMS. SHE GLARES AT SAMANTHA.
        AMANDA
I've been looking for you. Are you all right, Summer?
        SUMMER
I'm fine. You look like you've been through hell!
        AMANDA
Were you going to kill her, too?
        SAMANTHA
          I'm tired of this.
        AMANDA
You killed Serena! (To Summer) Run, she can snap any minute!
        SUMMER BACKS AWAY.
        SAMANTHA (surprised,
          turns to Summer)
          Don't you believe me?
        SUMMER
          I don't know. I can't think…
        AMANDA PICKS UP
A LARGE STICK, AND QUICKLY CHARGES SAMANTHA.
SAMANTHA DOESN'T HEAR HER COMING. SUMMER TURNS AND SCREAMS.
        SUMMER
          No!
        AMANDA IS FURIOUS
AND RELENTLESS. SAMANTHA DOESN'T HAVE A CHANCE.
AMANDA HITS SAMANTHA OVER AND OVER AGAIN. SAMANTHA TRIES TO
RESIST, BUT AMANDA IS ON PSYCHO ADRENALIN.
        AMANDA
You can't have her! You can't have me!
        AMANDA STOPS. SHE
STEPS BACK. SAMANTHA IS IN A FETAL POSITION,
COVERED WITH GASHES AND BLOOD. SHE'S COUGHING, AND DOESN'T GET
          UP.
        SUMMER RUNS OVER
          TO HER.
        SUMMER
Have you lost it? (BEAT) What have you done?
        AMANDA DROPS THE
STICK. SHE STANDS STILL AND EMOTIONLESS.
SHE STARES AT SAMANTHA AS THE LIFE BLEEDS OUT OF HER.

          EXT: PARKING LOT - NIGHT
        TOBEY STANDS NERVOUSLY
AT THE CARS, WAITING FOR THE GUYS TO CATCH UP. HE GOES THOUGH HIS POCKETS,
LOOKING FOR THE KEYS. THERE ARE TWO CARS. TOBEY LOOKS FROM ONE TO THE
OTHER. HE THROWS HIS HEAD BACK IN ANGUISH.
        TOBEY (to himself)
Meet at the car… right. (beat) Why didn’t I drive?

          EXT: GRAVEYARD- NIGHT
        DAWN ALMOST PEAKS
FROM THE HORIZON. AMY AND PAUL ARE WALKING
          AIMLESSLY, EXHAUSTED.
        SFX- A BIRD CHIRPS.
        PAUL
          Are we lost?
        AMY
People are dying… I can feel it.
        PAUL
Stop saying that. We're still alive.
        AMY
          No, we're not.
        AMY STUMBLES. PAUL
          CATCHES HER.
        AMY
I'm so tired. I need sleep.
        PAUL
          You're not sleeping.
        AMY (slurs)
I need to show you something…
        PAUL (strangely
          submissive)
          Ok.
        AMY
          Trust me.
        (A SHRIEK PIERCES
THE AIR OVER THEM. A MASSIVE SHADOW FLOATS
          ACROSS THE SKY.)
        AMY JUMPS.
        PAUL
          Relax. It's just an owl.
        THE OWL HOOTS IN
          THE DISTANCE.
        PAUL (con't)
Amy, do you know where we are?
        AMY
          Not really.
        PAUL
Ok. Now we're going this way.
        PAUL STARTS LEADING
AMY IN ANOTHER DIRECTION. SHE DOESN'T RESIST.
        AMY STOPS. SHE
SEEMS TO WAKE UP. SHE BREAKS FROM PAUL'S GRASP.
        AMY
We're here! What did I tell you?
        PAUL
          Tombstones?
        AMY EXAMINES THE
FACE OF THE STONES IN THE MOONLIGHT. SHE TRACES
          THE ETCHING IN THE ROCK.
        AMY
Did Roger Smith live a lonely solitary life and die, ironically, on
          February 14, 1949?
        PAUL
I don't know. It was over 35 years ago.
        AMY
Did he waste his life waiting too long to make a mark in this world?
        AMY SOUNDS SAD.
          SHE IS SOLEMN.
        PAUL (weakly)
He probably had a full life.
        AMY
We are all going to end up here…
        PAUL SEES SOMETHING
THROUGH THE TREES. HE WALKS AROUND TO GET A
          BETTER VANTAGE POINT.
        AMY EXAMINES ANOTHER
          TOMBSTONE. IT IS STAINED BROWN.
        AMY
          Look at this stone.
        PAUL LOOKS AROUND.
        PAUL
This is where we found Wurm!
        AMY REALIZES WHAT
SHE IS LOOKING AT. SHE GASPS.
        AMY
          Oh my God!
        PAUL
          What?
        AMY
I know where we are! This stone is stained with blood!
        PAUL GOES TO THE
OTHER SIDE OF THE CLEARING. HE PALES WITH HORROR.
        PAUL
          Oh my God!
        AMY RUNS OVER TO
          HIM.
        AMY
          What's wrong?
        HER POV FOLLOWS
THE LINE OF SIGHT WHERE PAUL IS POINTING. SHE
          CHOKES.
        VANESSA IS HANGING
UPSIDE DOWN FROM A TREE WITH A ROPE TIED
AROUND HER ANKLES; DEAD. HER ARMS ARE LASHED TO A BRANCH THAT IS
TIED BEHIND HER BACK, MAKING A MAKESHIFT, INVERTED CRUCIFIX.
        AMY CRIES VIOLENTLY
          INTO PAUL'S CHEST.
        PAUL
That fucking Wurm. He sacrificed a virgin!
        AMY DROPS TO HER
          KNEES. SHE IS CRYING.
        AMY
Fuck Tammy! This is unacceptable. Unacceptable, do you hear me?
        PAUL BENDS DOWN
          TO EMBRACE HER.
        PAUL
We'll worry about her when we get back.
        PAUL HELPS HER
TO HER FEET, AND THEY LEAVE. THEY DON'T GET FAR,
HOWEVER, BEFORE THEY RUN INTO AMANDA, WHO IS STANDING IN THEIR
PATH ALONG THE TRAIL. AMANDA LOOKS EVEN WORSE THAN BEFORE, WITH
FRESH BLOOD ON HER CLOTHING, AND SCRATCHES THAT LOOK LIKE THEY
WERE DONE BY FINGERNAILS DOWN THE LENGTH OF HER ARM.
        AMANDA
I thought I would find you two together!
        AMY
          Amanda?
        PAUL
          What happened to you?
        AMANDA
You said I was the best thing that ever happened to you!
        PAUL (confused)
I don’t think you heard me right.
        AMANDA
You told me you loved me!
        AMANDA LUNGES AT
AMY. AMY DODGES HER AND PUSHES HER BACK.
        AMY (to Paul)
          Is this true?
        PAUL (to Amy)
She’s slept with half of the team!
        AMANDA
My life is over, without him.
        AMY
          Him?
        PAUL TRIES TO GRAB
AMANDA. SHE KNOCKS HIM OUT WITH ONE BLOW,
          POWERED BY AN ANIMAL-LIKE STRENGTH.
        AMY STEPS AWAY
          FROM AMANDA.
        AMY
          Why?
        AMANDA DROPS THE
STICK, AND FALLS IN A HEAP TO THE GROUND. SHE IS
          SOBBING.
        AMY STARTS TO CRY,
TOO. SHE GOES UP TO HER, KNEELS DOWN, AND PUTS
          HER HAND ON HER BACK.
        AMY
          Who hurt you?
        AMANDA
          Jeremy.
        AMY
          Jeremy?
        AMANDA (softly)
          Jackson.
        PAUL PICKS HIMSELF
UP. HE LOOKS AT HER IN DISBELIEF.
        PAUL
          What are you talking about?
        AMANDA
He destroyed me. Just like my father.
        PAUL
          I never meant to…
        AMY
Jeremy made a mistake. We all make mistakes.
        AMANDA SHAKES AND
ROCKS BACK AND FORTH, PULLING AND PUSHING AMY AS SHE DOES.
        AMY
He didn’t mean to hurt you, Paula!

          AMANDA
          I was scared.
        AMY
          I know.
        WURM STEPS IN FRONT
OF THEM, STARTLING PAUL AND THE GIRLS. HE HAS A GLAZED LOOK.

          WURM
The spirits are at peace, now.
        PAUL
We're getting out of here, come on.
        WURM
I- I must take responsibility for releasing them. The deaths are my
          fault.
        WURM PULLS OUT
A GUN FROM BENEATH HIS TATTERED ROBE. HE PUTS THE
          BARREL BENEATH HIS CHIN.
        WURM
          Alacura- Bekula!
        AMY
          DON'T!
        WURM SMILES.
        SOUND OF A GUNSHOT
          AND SCREAMS. SCREEN FLASHES RED.

        CUT TO: FACE OF

SCRATCHES HIS HEAD. HIS NAME IS LT. ANDERSON MCNEIL.
        PAN OUT TO SEE
          AMY SEATED IN A CHAIR.
        MCNEIL TAKES A
SEAT ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DESK IN FRONT OF HER.
        MCNEIL
Amy Hendrix. Pledge master for the Alpha Omega Delta, how would you
          describe- Tammy Spencer, sorority president?
        AMY
          She ordered us out there.
        MCNEIL
We know that, but how would you describe her as a person? Would you
          call her a friend?
        AMY
          We're acquaintances.
        MCNEIL
You wouldn't say that you're friends?
        AMY (irritated)
          No.
        MCNEIL
You claimed the girls were drugged.
        AMY (snaps)
I don't claim anything. The fact is someone slipped drugs into our…
        MCNEIL
We're waiting on forensics to determine whether that is fact or opinion.
        AMY
I'm sure you are, but I know.
        MCNEIL
If you refuse to cooperate, I will charge you with withholding evidence.
        AMY
          I've been through hell.
        MCNEIL
At least you lived to tell about it.
        AMY CHOKES ON A
          SOB.

          AMY
How would you feel if any of your men were senselessly killed?
        MCNEIL (affected)
          Who is Wurm? A boyfriend?
        AMY
No! I had never met him before.
        MCNEIL
          Did he make you uncomfortable?
        AMY
Well considering the circumstances, he freaked the shit out of me.
        MCNEIL EXCITEDLY
          TAKES NOTES.
        AMY (con't)
          We panicked…we got separated.
        MCNEIL
When did he admit to killing Serena?
        AMY
He didn't…He insisted he didn't directly kill anyone.
        MCNEIL
How can you not directly kill someone?
        AMY
He said the spirits were responsible. Then… he shot himself.

        AMANDA LOOKS UP
          AT THEM. HER EYES WIDEN.
        CHRIS

          You don't remember everything?
        AMANDA
Bits and pieces. I remember that Wurm guy.
        MCNEIL
          Did he do anything threatening?
        AMANDA
Aside from communing with the dead?
        MCNEIL
I need concrete facts, young lady, not sass.
        (beat)
        AMANDA (hiding
          her contempt)
He said he was going to kill me like he did Serena.
        MCNEIL
          He admitted to killing her?
        AMANDA
He was insane with guilt…I guess he snapped…
        SHE LOOKS UP, PRACTICED
          TEARS IN HER EYES.
        MCNEIL
Do you think Wurm killed the others?
        AMANDA (coldly)

        CHRIS SITS BEHIND
A LARGE DESK WITH TAMMY SEATED ON THE OTHER SIDE.
        TAMMY
The sorority will do everything it can for Amy and Amanda. I promise
          you that.
        CHRIS
That isn't why I called you here.
        TAMMY
          Oh?
        CHRIS
Who ordered the girls out there for the initiation?
        TAMMY
          I did.
        CHRIS
          Why?
        TAMMY
We had an initiation committee borrow a page from the fraternity black
book. A graveyard scenario was perfect.
        CHRIS
What did you and Amanda meet about three days before the initiation?
        TAMMY
We were discussing the future of the sorority.
        CHRIS
How long have you known Amanda?
        TAMMY
About a year, we met at a fraternity party at Olympus.
        CHRIS
Someone told me the circumstances were a bit traumatic.
        TAMMY
Amanda was upset that night. I calmed her down.
        CHRIS
          Why was she upset?
        TAMMY
I'm sorry, but I can't tell you that. I respect Amanda's privacy, and
          it really isn't your business.
        CHRIS
When Amanda left campus after meeting with you she had a backpack, and
          was
          dressed for the woods.
        TAMMY
I sent her out to the Graveyard to scout the area.
        CHRIS
I thought Amanda wasn't comfortable in the woods.
        TAMMY
What are you talking about? Amanda grew up near a national forest! She's
          a great
          camper.
        CHRIS
          What was in her backpack?
        TAMMY LOOKS AWAY.
        CHRIS STANDS UP.
          HE IS ANGRY.
        CHRIS
          You are under oath!
        TAMMY JUMPS UP
          AND GETS IN HIS FACE.
        TAMMY
I sent her to fix Amy's initiation!
        (BEAT)
        TAMMY
Amanda used to help her father hunt. She knew how to set up traps and
things like that. She was supposed to scare everyone into leaving early.
        CHRIS
Do you know how the first girl died?
        TAMMY SHRUGS INDIFFERENTLY.
        CHRIS
A tree branch sliced her throat.
        TAMMY
She was running in the woods…
        CHRIS
No one can run that fast.
        TAMMY
Are you implying Amanda had something to do with that?
        CHRIS GLANCES DOWN.
HE RUBS THE SIDE OF HIS FOREHEAD WITH A TREMBLING HAND AS HE CONTAINS
          HIS ANGER.
        TAMMY IS NERVOUS.
        CHRIS
          If this gets out…
        TAMMY
Don't worry. They can't pin this on me.
        CHRIS
I'm not worried about that. Actually, you’re the last person I’m
          worried about right now.
        TAMMY
I just told Amanda to go out and set something up!
        CHRIS
I spent five years of my life building these organizations. I'm not
going to have your mistake destroy what we've built!
        TAMMY
          What?
        CHRIS
          I'm impeaching you.
        TAMMY
          You can't do that!
        CHRIS
          I just did.
        TAMMY
          I'll fight it!
        CHRIS
No you won't. If you fight this, the reason will be out. You'll be held
          publicly responsible for those deaths.
        TAMMY
I suppose your Amy is going to be president now. That is the law.
        CHRIS
          My Amy?
        TAMMY
Yeah. You two aren't very discrete.
        CHRIS
Amy is in no condition to be the sorority president. Don’t you
get it, Tammy? Six girls died! (beat) Don’t you feel any remorse?
        TAMMY
I'm sorry my heart doesn't bleed as easily as yours.
        TAMMY EXITS THE
          OFFICE. THE DOOR SLAMS.
        CHRIS
          Stones don’t bleed.

AND QUIET. THERE IS TOTAL SILENCE IN THE ROOM, AS SHE IS ALONE.
        THE DOOR OPENS,
          AND TOBY ENTERS.
        TOBEY
Haven't you stared at walls long enough?
        AMANDA
          I wasn't looking for company.
        TOBEY
You don't have to be defensive with me, Mandy. I know you.
        AMANDA
          You think you do.
        TOBEY
Something happened to you since last semester.
        AMANDA
          Look, I don't need your hollow sympathy…
        TOBEY
          Amanda, you've been through hell.
        AMANDA
          Maybe that's what I deserve.
        TOBEY
          Mandy… I care about you.
        THE DOOR OPENS
AGAIN. AMANDA AND TOBEY LOOK BEHIND THEM AS TAMMY
          ENTERS.
        TAMMY
Ignore me. I'm just picking up my things.
        AMANDA
          Why?
        TAMMY
I'm no longer the sorority president.
        TOBEY
          What?
        TAMMY WALKS DOWN
THE AISLE TO THE PODIUM. AMANDA AND TOBEY TRACK
HER WITH THEIR EYES. SHE GOES BEHIND THE PODIUM. SHE SHUFFLES
          AROUND.
        AMANDA
Are you being blamed for last night?
        TAMMY(O.S.)
I'd rather not go into it.
        AMANDA
          Is that why?
        TAMMY EMERGES FROM
BEHIND THE PODIUM. SHE GLARES AT AMANDA.
        TAMMY
You know that's why, you stupid bitch! It's all your fault.
        AMANDA
What the hell are you saying?
        TAMMY
          You took it too far.
        AMANDA
          I did what you asked.
        TAMMY
You're crazy, I never asked you for a Goddamn thing!

ENCIRCLE HIM. PALE SKIN ON SOFT HANDS CONTRAST AGAINST HIS SUIT.
        AMY
          I know you understand.
        CHRIS
          I do.
        AMY
But is that all you're going to say?
        CHRIS TURNS AROUND
IN HER EMBRACE. SHE PULLS HIM TO HER WITH HIS
TIE TO KISS HIM. HE TURNS HIS FACE.
        AMY
          Chris…
        SHE REMOVES THE
TIE AND STARTS TO UNBUTTON HIS SHIRT.
        CHRIS PINS HER
          HAND WITH HIS.
        CHRIS
          Amy, what are you doing?
        AMY
          What we both want.
        CHRIS
Ames, I'm committed. Sonya and I are getting married.
        AMY
          Don't you love me?
        CHRIS
          You know I do.
        AMY KISSES HIM.
        CHRIS PULLS AWAY.
        AMY
          Just not that way.
        CHRIS
          What's gotten into you?
        AMY PULLS AWAY.
SHE TURNS HER BACK TO HIM.
        AMY
I almost died last night. I could have died.
        CHRIS
          You're safe now!
        AMY
I realized how short life is.
        CHRIS
          Ames, you made it out.
        AMY
But they didn’t and I have to live with that.
        CHRIS
          So does Tammy.
        AMY
Ha! Tammy will finally have something on me. How will I ever live this
down? That bitch has ruined me!
        CHRIS
          I impeached her.
        AMY (much calmer)
Oh? (beat) Who's going to be president?
        CHRIS
          Vice president Cecilia Duncan.
        AMY (agitated and
          surprised)
What? The runner up in the past election gets the option before the
          vice president.
        CHRIS
          I over ruled the law.
        AMY
Tell me you're joking. (beat) You don't think I can do this?
        CHRIS
One day, you might be ready.
        AMY (sharply)
          Might?
        CHRIS
Ames, I love you, but I have to keep business decisions separate.
        AMY
          It's Amy, Mr. Parker.
        CHRIS
You handled the events in the graveyard, you showed leadership, but
you're no longer mentally able to handle the job.
        AMY
          You think I'm crazy?
        CHRIS
No. You're traumatized. It's too soon.
        AMY
This isn't fair! Why are you locking me out?
        CHRIS
Amy, you're a walking billboard for post-traumatic stress disorder.
        AMY
Whatever happened to us? Friendship first!
        CHRIS
I'd be a fool if I ran a business like that.
        AMY STARTS TO CRY.
        AMY
That's business, I guess. You don't give a damn about me!
        CHRIS
          Ames…
        AMY
          It's AMY!
        AMY RUNS TO THE
          DOOR.
        CHRIS
          I'm sorry.
        AMY PAUSES WITH
HER BACK TO HIM BEFORE LOUDLY SLAMMING THE DOOR
          BEHIND HER.
        FADE OUT.

          EXT: PARKING GARAGE ROOF- DAY

AMANDA AND PAUL ARE SEATED IN AN OLD CAR. THE WINDOWS ARE DOWN,
LETTING IN A COOL BREEZE. THEY LOOK TIRED, BUT ARE WELL DRESSED.
AMANDA IS RUNNING HER SLENDER FINGERS OVER THE BLADE OF A LETTER
OPENER. RED LIPS GLEAM AS SHE SMILES ODDLY AT THE INSTRUMENT, AND
          THEN OVER AT PAUL.

          INT: CAR - DAY
        PAUL
          Who's Jeremy?
        AMANDA
          Who?
        PAUL
You and Amy were talking at the graveyard.
        AMANDA
          I don't know. I really don't remember much.
        PAUL
          That's a normal defense mechanism.
        AMANDA
          I can't let things go.
        PAUL
You are the only one who can overcome your grief.
        AMANDA
You're deluding yourself. I'm just a bad person.
        PAUL
You are under a lot of stress right now.
        AMANDA
          I'm damaged.
        PAUL
Amanda, everyone is essentially good, they just make bad decisions.

        AMANDA
Decisions? (beat) Last year, at Olympus…your "brothers"
had a keg party. It was during “hell week,” remember? Everyone
          was wild.
        PAUL PAUSES TO
          REMEMBER.
        AMANDA (con’t)
I was funneling beers; guys all around me were cheering me on. Soon,
I started blacking out and coming to. I could barely stay conscious.

        PAUL
          Oh my God.
        AMANDA
When I opened my eyes I was in a dark room full of frat boys staring
at me with their hands down their pants. I couldn't move…
        PAUL
          What?
        AMANDA
I could feel the music through the walls. No one could hear me. One
of them locked the door. Then I realized they were watching as...
        AMANDA SNIFFS.
        AMANDA
          As they each...
        PAUL
          Who did this to you?
        AMANDA (whispers)
But at least one of them died in the graveyard.
        PAUL TRIES TO HUG
          HER. SHE PUSHES HIM AWAY.
        AMANDA
          Don't touch me.
        PAUL
          Who was it? (beat) Jackson?
        AMANDA
And ten of his closest friends.
        PAUL
          I can't believe you were…
        AMANDA
You mean you can't believe it was me?
        PAUL LOOKS SHOCKED.
        AMANDA
          Weren't you there? Innocent Paul?
        PAUL LOOKS AWAY.

          INT: BEDROOM - NIGHT
        A DIMLY LIT ROOM
RICOCHETS A STROBE LIGHT OFF THE WALLS AS A GROUP
OF FRAT BOYS CHEER AND SALIVATE AS IF THEY'RE WATCHING A FOOTBALL
          GAME.
        PAUL STANDS IN
THE CORNER BY THE DOOR, HIS HEAD LOW IN SHAME, BUT
WE SEE HIS CURIOUS EYES WANDER TO THE SOURCE OF THE ENTERTAINMENT.
        HE TURNS AWAY AND
SLIPS OUT OF THE ROOM, UNNOTICED.

          INT: CAR - DAY
        AMANDA
You get a bunch of guys together with a trusting girl and a keg and
anything can happen. I was so naive. (beat) They weren't cheering for
me. They were cheering for the chance to…
        SHE CRIES UNCONTROLLABLY.

          EXT: PARKING GARAGE - DAY
        AMANDA WALKS OVER
TO THE WALL AT THE HIGHEST POINT OF THE TOP OF
THE PARKING GARAGE. IT TOWERS THREE STORIES OVER THE ROAD BELOW.
SHE LOOKS OUT ABSENTMINDEDLY OVER THE CITY.
        AMANDA
You can see all of Tampa from here. The Airport, the buildings, the
          bay…it's beautiful.
        PAUL
          Yeah. Beautiful.
        AMANDA JUMPS UP
ONTO THE WALL. THE TOP IS NARROW. SHE PIVOTS
          AROUND LIKE A BALLERINA.
        PAUL (con't)
          Jesus, Amanda! Get down!
        AMANDA
You ever look at death? You know, in the face?
        PAUL
          No. Get down, please.
        AMANDA
He's kind of cute. (She laughs, her eyes full of tears) I can actually
see him smiling up at me.
        PAUL
          Please don't do this!
        AMANDA
Do you think I can fall off before you can reach me? If you play it
safe, and stand there, I might come down on my own. Maybe I'll jump.
          It's my choice.
        PAUL
          Ok.
        AMANDA
No, I'm not naive! I'm not naive anymore!
        PAUL
I never said you were! Please, get down now.
        PAUL reaches for
AMANDA. AMANDA rears back, a look of desperation in her eyes.
        AMANDA
Stop! Let me make my decision. I can finally have peace. If I don't,
I will only destroy life again.
        PAUL
          Again?
        AMANDA
          It's over…
        AMANDA LOSES HER
BALANCE. PAUL SCREAMS. SHE REGAINS HER BALANCE, LAUGHS SPONTANEOUSLY
          THEN BECOMES SERIOUS.
        AMANDA
I keep replaying that night in my mind…
        PAUL TRIES TO MOVE
TO HER. SHE HOLDS HER HAND OUT, AND FREEZES.
        AMANDA
Stop right there! I mean it! This is my choice! Come any closer, and
I'll jump. Let me make my choice.
        PAUL SHUFFLES BACK.
        PAUL
          Please don't jump!
        AMANDA
It started as an accident. Tammy and I became friends the night of the
rape. She helped me. I owed it to her to help her.
        PAUL
          What are you talking about?
        AMANDA
She came to me, and asked me to help her. I went to the graveyard, and
planted a bunch of shit to get Amy and the pledges.
        PAUL
          Tammy?
        AMANDA
I never wanted to kill anyone. Serena’s death was an accident.
A trap was sprung too tight…I never thought…and Vanessa
knew it. I had to kill her. And Jackson… that was pure vengeance…

          PAUL
          Oh my God!
        AMANDA
It doesn't matter anymore. It's over.
        PAUL
          Please. Don't!
        AMANDA SMILES AND
LETS HERSELF FALL. PAUL LEAPS TO HER, MAKING HER
PIVOT UNCONTROLLABLY. AMANDA FALLS IN HIS ARMS. THEY CRUMBLE INTO
A HEAP NEXT TO THE WALL. SHE IS STILL IN PAUL'S ARMS.
        AMANDA
          Can't you take a hint?
        PAUL
Don't you see? Tammy used you.
        AMANDA PULLS AWAY.
        AMANDA
Don't fuck with me right now.
        PAUL
She introduced a few girls to us that night. I remember she told us,
          "This one likes to drink."
        AMANDA
Bull shit. You want me to believe she knew?
        PAUL
She was the one who walked you to the room. It was your initiation.
        AMANDA
          I don't remember…
        PAUL
She used you, Amanda. She set you up.
        AMANDA'S EYES NARROW.

          INT: SORORITY HOUSE - DAY
        TAMMY SITS AT HER
DESK FOR THE LAST TIME; HER HEAD IS BURIED IN HER
HANDS. SHE COMPOSES HERSELF AND STANDS TO TAKE A GLASS ANGEL
FROM THE BOOKSHELF. SHE HOLDS THE FIGURINE AS SHE GAZES AT ALL
THE ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS THE SORORITY HAS ACCUMULATED, HER BACK
          TO THE DOOR.
        FEMALE (VO)
I knew I'd still find you here.
        TAMMY TURNS IN
SURPRISE, HER FACE GOES WHITE AND SHE DROPS THE
ANGEL. AS IT SHATTERS ON THE FLOOR, BLOOD SPLATTERS ACROSS THE
          FRAGMENTS.

IN HIS CAR ALONE, LISTENING TO THE RADIO. THE
PASSENGER DOOR OPENS AND AMY GETS IN.
        AMY
Chris did teach me one good thing. Pawns can be useful.
        PAUL SMILES, KISSES
AMY PASSIONATELY, AND AS THEY DRIVE AWAY…
        PAUL
See, I told you Mary. You're the best thing that ever happened to me.
        AMY
Are you ready to expand our relationship, Jeremy?
        PAUL
          I’m always ready to expand.
        HE SMILES AND DRIVES
          FASTER.
        FADE OUT.
