NEWS AND UPDATES

Wednesday, September 20, 2006: Catching Up To Ourselves

When we state that major productions will not begin until 2008, we really do mean major, large scale productions. What is now looking more probable than ever is that we will be pushing out projects in a matter of months, as Executive Producer C. A. Passinault does not want to go the "putting all of our eggs into one basket" route like it would have been with the Reverence feature film project, and instead wants to do low budget, high quality, experimental projects. With a lot of work going on over at event planning/ stage production and our sister company Eventi Events and new production plans that will require support from Dream Nine Studios, it looks like our dormant period will not be nearly as long as previously planned, and Dream Nine Studios incubator projects can do wonders to help enhance the Eventi and the Passinault entertainment subculture and philosophy.
One Internet development which has really caught our attention, and is the subject of intense study at the moment, is the YouTube.Com phenomenon, which is now growing faster than social networking giant Myspace. There are so many cheap, high quality digital cameras out there and inexpensive, powerful computers and editing software that can do the job that used to require an entire studio; a kid with a camera and a computer can now do their own one-man shows at no cost which easily outdo the best that public access had to offer a mere ten years ago. While putting such technology in the hands of the no-talent, untrained masses has certainly been interesting, what would happen when you combine such low cost production capability with professional efforts? Passinault wisely paced our time and invested in talent resources while Dream Nine Studios was restructured and gestated; we have access to the best actors and talent in Florida at the moment as a result of that investment, and with production capability that we used to only be able to dream of, this could be the start of a groundbreaking era. Ahead of our time? Everything that we predicted has come to pass, and those production teams that we subcontracted in the past have been proven wrong. Online distribution is the future, and those who have followed our progress over the years may recall that this is the issue that was most fought over and ended up killing projects because they simply didn't get it. Things are different, now, and we can finally do what we were meant to do.
When the Futura television series was developed in 1993, it was way ahead of its time. The advanced format mix of hosted-magazine talk show and behind-the-scenes reality television drama was like nothing else, and it’s still something that would be ahead of its time today (don’t let our reality television format description fool you, though, as the premise would be been much like reality television except using real actors and professional scripts). Everything from the “computer window” theme to the futuristic set is as good today as it would have been then, and with the present state of the Internet the support and distribution environment drives the potential of the series up. No changes even have to be made, although they could be made to make it even better. For example, the name no longer works as well, and it is already in use in business (Futura is the name of some old car, for example). Such a series would, of course, now tie in with web sites, and due to the more open nature of Internet distribution, we wouldn’t be as restricted with commercial plugs and free speech in general (in the old days, it was hard enough to be allowed to list sponsors in the end credits, and most of us didn’t know what a web site was- This is not the case now). We would, of course, keep the split format of prostage (talking head/ host magazine) and retrostage (behind-the-scenes reality television style drama) - To our knowledge, this has never been done before, although it might have been with an old HBO talk show that we haven’t really seen and cannot confirm. We can say, however, that no one has ever done it like it would have been done in Futura.
So, what’s going to happen with Futura? We may press it into production after scrapping the name and the elaborate set. The set would go only because we don’t have the studio space to keep it (it would require a large sound stage with at 20' ceiling, risers, and extensive studio lighting - Ironically, many of the season one Futura episodes would not have used this set, as there were a lot of locations to be used). We have books of ideas and show outlines that are now being dusted off and studied. They are all still excellent.
There are now unlimited resources available and the only limitations to what can be done would be the creativity that goes into a project. We have more ideas and concepts than we know what to do with, and there would not be a shortage. So, what’s next? A series of web-based episodes? A web-based television series with a cast? A barrage of intriguing sort films? All of the above? That’s hard to say at the moment, but we have more options than we can count right now, and we could do it all if we can make it fit into the master plan. C. A. Passinault has approved some radical and controversial ideas that will be sure to put our public relations department to the test in the coming years, as some of our projects will push the boundaries of what is considered to be politically correct.
We won’t even go into what this is doing to the idea of film festivals and what Eventi Events is working on. Their film festival project slated for next year may be finished before it even starts, as there may not even be a need or a market for it. If they can justify the project, we may push them to delay it for another year so we will have something to contribute, too. Speaking of Eventi Events, there are talks with them for Dream Nine Studios to film their events and make their stage productions available as features over the web. There will be more on that later.

DISCLAIMER

Dream Nine Studios is a motion picture production company, a video game developer, and a music label based out of Tampa Bay, Florida. It is a Passinault.Com company and a part of the Passinault Entertainment Group.

Dream Nine Studios was formed under the Passinault Entertainment Group in 1999. For the past eleven years, we have been developing infrastructure while the service companies of the Passinault Entertainment Group and Passinault Industries LLC have been working on expanding business. We have also been patiently waiting for technology to catch up with many of our ideas and concepts, which were way ahead of their time, so that we can finally proceed with them in a cost-effective manner. We are currently scheduled to begin operations sometime in 2010, eleven years after initial formation. Our company, which began live as an independent film production company, has evolved to become a indie film production, video game development, and music label company. All of our production lines are designed to assist others, which is one reason that it took us this long to get started, and this will give us an advantage in our production efforts. We will become the dominant entertainment media production company in the Tampa Bay and Florida markets, and as future leaders of the professional production communities in Tampa Bay we will be the catalyst and the innovators which will put local productions on the map and make the rest of the entertainment industry take notice. Our efforts will lead to the recognition and respect that media productions will earn and deserve as powerful forms of art, and professionals who ally themselves with us will benefit greatly. Dream Nine Studios is the primary sponsor of Tampa indie film resource Tampa Bay Film, which currently operates the best online film festival in the Tampa Bay and the Florida markets. We will soon heavily push the next generation of film festival events with the assistance of our sister and event production company Eventi Events and Stage Tampa Bay.
